I'm about to pull the trigger on a new laptop, but can't figure out which one of these to get. I'm coming from a D620. I need the nVidia gfx. They both have LED screen right? Anyone have an opinion which way I should go? I'm in Canada, both appear to be priced very close...

    thanks...

That precision should be better built.

I had same dilemma, coming from D810 (tired of caring 15.4" laptop) which is really dated. My read that both laptops (6400/2400) are the same.

I went to Precision M2400 route because better video and I actually like non-flat screen top.

LED display and Blootooth are options for E6400 and standad on M2400.

It's way cheaper to get 320Gb 7.2k HDD from NCIX, that from DELL, so I took 80Gb smallest option.

Good point on the HD. Did you do similar for RAM? I was thinking 4 Gb (2x2Gb), but might be better to get the RAM elsewhere too...

No, ram is pretty much the same deal. I taking 2x2Gig from Dell. I also don't think that slim power adapter worth $65, as well as docking options. I'm sure this stuff will be all over e-bay in 6 month for half of the money.

If you call Dell as small business, you will save couple hundred backs from website price. Configure what you want, save your cart and call them with your cart #. Will pay for webcam and other small otions.

I think, what I checked was single 2Gb, assuming to buy second stick on side and diference was't that much. Perhaps, I misculculated it... Too bad, they refused to sell it with RedHat Lunix, that would save a bunch as I have extra copy of Vista already.

The salesperson I talked to regarding build quality said the Precision was better (they would, wouldn't they!) too. Question is, does anyone know how they are better? The only visible difference I see is the black metal lookalike and the wavy silver lcd cover between the two.

They should be the same build quality wise because they seem to use the same chassis. You only want the Precision for the workstation-class graphics card and unique-looking lid cover. Other than that they're pretty much the same. IMO.

Fully agree, both are exact the same.
