Precision models are quite a bit more expensive. The equivalent model is M2400. You are much more likely to find a E6400 equipped the way you want.

The Outlet works with small margins. If you buy the brand new ones from the main site, there is a lot more room to give you freebies. I don't think you can expect any Outlet concessions, other than perhaps a shipping upgrade if you ask nicely.

I purchased one from Outlet today.

    Config:

    Dell Latitude E6400
    • 2.4 ghz P8600 Intel Core 2 Duo
    • 3GB RAM
    • 160 GB Free Fall Sensor HDD
    • Webcam/Mic
    • WXGA LED
    • Intel Wifi Link 5300 a/g/n
    • Bluetooth
    • DVDRW
    • 9-cell battery
    • backlit keyboard
    • Integrated Intel 4500 with Express Card graphics
Total ~$900(I extended the warranty to 3 year Pro-support, NBD onsite)

I couldn't find NVDIA card in the price range. The ones I found were missing other things like webcam/mic. So, I went with this. I don't play any games at all (not even solitaire), and I value battery life more. So, it's fine. I could also have gotten a better processor (2.53/2.66 Txxxx) but I know they eat more battery and there isn't much difference in performance.

Now I am going to wait 4 months and buy these upgrades:
    1. SSD whenever it comes under $450 for 128+ GB (Intel or OCZ Vertex or comparable drive at that time)
    2. 4GB RAM stick (to make a total of 6GB)

    • You should be happy. If you don't need the power of dedicated graphics, then the Intel GPU is cool and quiet. The difference in CPU power isn't noticeable without a stopwatch.

I am quite happy! Many thanks to everyone here for help and advise.

Just waiting to pick it up now. Speaking of which, how can I test the system and make sure everything works? I mean, are there any software(s) that I can leave running overnight to stress the system and test it?

You can stress test both the cpu and ram by using Orthos. Benchmarking programs like PCMark or 3DMark also stresses the system but only for a few minutes.

I just ordered a Latitude E6400 and I am confused with the order-confirmation-email that I got. It says:
    "
    J361H 1 Module,Information,Cover,Back W/LED,Liquid Crystal Display Black

    GN303 1 Module,Liquid Crystal Display 14.1WX+,Light Emitting Diode Secondary,Roush/heelys

I am confused! I asked for LED display. Is this LED or LCD?

I will post this in Owner's lounge too.

Relax. You are getting a LCD display with LED backlight.

Does anyone knows whether the E4300 keyboard can be used on the E6400?

It seems that in the review of the E4300, the keyboard is better. Any views?
