Cool. I never knew shaving cream was such a good lubricant...I was thinking of something else that seemed more suited for this purpose...;)

So basically touch/feel/flex of backlit keyboard is similar to non-backlit keyboard of E6400?

I posted this elsewhere but am hoping someone will reply:

I just ordered an E6400 from Dell's outlet. It was supposed to come with a backlit display but it seems they're sending it without one. They say I can return it or they can send me a backlit display for installation.

Two questions: how hard is it to install? Would I need additional drivers/software for it to work?

I'd like to keep the model I've ordered if I can get the backlit screen; kind of a dealbreaker for me. Any suggestions appreciated. . .

Backlit display or backlit keyboard? The keyboard is really easy to install. If I remember correctly, you just need to remove 5-6 screws and your done. The display is a little bit harder to replace.I think if you remove the display, your warranty will be void.

    I don't think it's possible to get a display/screen without backlighting. :/

Oops, sorry about that, I meant the keyboard. So, it really would be easy? Even for a klutz ? And what about drivers/software, would that be a problem.

    Thanks again for the replies!

If the process is anything like it was with my Studio 1535, then it's not much effort at all. The whole swap took me about 10 minutes. And there's no drivers or software needed, other than Dell QuickSet if you want to change how long the backlights stay on.

Do you think Dell would send instructions with the new backlit keyboard? If not, where would I find the information for the E6400?
