guys after going through your posts on 4310, I am a bit scared as I have just ordered E-4310, frankly speaking I do not undertstand the jargon of going short on the screen, losing some pixels, rather can someone help me to know what I will be losing as I am using XPS M1330 right now and trying to move a scale up(after reading the various views, I doubt that as well) on the screen side. I promarily use this laptop as my main computer for day in and day out , whether I am travelling or at home.

If you often watch movies, the E4310 will be nice because the screen is the same aspect ratio as widescreen movies.

If you rarely watch movies, the screen resolution will be a downgrade. The M1330 has a 16:10 aspect ratio screen, the E4310 (and widescreen movies) has 16:9. You will lose a bit of screen height, which could mean more scrolling in vertical documents.

However, whether or not this difference is bothersome depends on your usage patterns. Since you've already ordered it, give it a shot and see what you think. :)

thanks ROBIN24K for the clarification, really appreciate. The order is done but not yet finalised from DELL side, as some documents to be given. I do a lot of EXCEL SHEETS and WORD DOCUMENTS and I believe as per the reply from your side I will need to scroll a bit more.Other than that how is the machine look wise and perfomance ? Worth for XPS M1330 Replacement ? Suggestions if any.

Yes, but for spreadsheets you may appreciate the extra width.
A more solid build quality and, if you don't need dedicated graphics, a definite contender.

Thinking about buying the E4310, but have a question about dual monitor setups.

I want to connect the laptop to an external display for work. I want to simultaneously used the laptop screen (not mirrored - i.e. as a dual display).

Is this possible with the e4310? What sort of resolution on the external display am I limited to (and what external monitor size)?

    Thanks.

You can definitely run dual monitors. However, the Intel datasheet for the QS57 chipset seems sparse on hard numbers. I'm sure that you can go to at least 1680 x 1050 or 1920 x 1080, and probably higher. The physical size of the monitor is irrelevant.

Having a weird issue with the E-Dock and my monitors. Reloaded the E3410 with W7 Ent 64 from scratch after installing a faster hard drive. I have a U2410 connected to dock video connector 1 over displayport and a 2407 on connector 2 connected via DVI-D. Both monitors are 24" and run at 1920x1200.

Prior to installing the Intel HD video drivers, I was able to use my U2410 with no issues, but without the proper video drivers I could not access the second the screen. After installing Intel HD drivers from the Dell site, I am only able to access the 2407. The U2410 comes on, then goes into power save mode.

While I doubt this has anything to do with Bios A04 - which I also updated to this week, I may try flashing it back to A03 to see if that changes anything.

Have tried going through all of the setup menus in the Intel software without luck.

Tried to find updated software on the Intel site, but was not able to find anything before I ran out of time yesterday.

    Any ideas?

man, what's going on with all these business notebooks going to 16:9, just read around here, obviously people don't like it, we need vertical resolution or has the whole world stopped working and now our notebooks are designed for movies and entertainment?

c'mon Dell, Lenovo, Sony and a many others, listen to your customers. A decent display on a business notebook is the biggest void in today's notebooks, not many like the cheap, dull grainy, poor contrast, horrible viewing angles and we pay more for these laptops, makes no sense, consumers too forgiving I guess.

I'd like to find a way that worked to encourage notebook manufacturers to use better displays ... anyway, rant over, thx

Hi all, I am considering the E4310; moving away from an M2400 whose CPU throttling has been driving me crazy (RMClock is used 24/7 to maintain the clock speed at 1.8 GHz (down from the P8600's 2.4) to prevent sudden slowdowns).

    Three questions -

    a) does the E4310 suffer from the same heat / throttling / slow donw issues as the M2400 / E6400 ? is the situation at least better ?

    b) does the DisplayPort on the dock work per usual in spite of the fact that the notebook body itself does not come with such a port ?

    c) does it come with the weightsaver module (replacing the optical drive with the fitted plastic) ?
