Open the device manager, click on monitors, there should only be one, double click that and go to the details tab of the popup.

Click on the dropdown menu and select HardwareID. If the number begins with SEC, you have the Samsung.

Man, i just ordered E6400 w/ LED. I was hoping that i can get excellent screen judging by the price and the hype! I have been using SONY vaio for decades, so i guess i'll see lots of disappointments when my laptop arrived.

ok, anyone knows which screen is better between dell e6400 vs lenovo sl400? if it can beat lenovo sl400, then i think i could live with it as lenovo was my initial choice.

Well, if you get the E6400 LED screen...I would imagine you will be QUITE impressed with it.

Also, he is coming from vaio laptops - which have the best screens in the industry.

    Good luck....

I have the SAMSUNG SEC5442 on my M4400. Its on maximum brightness and the pictures are the richest colors Ive seen. Great blacks and contrast.

I also hear the LG is the loser for these lines, not sure how true that is though.

But you don't have an LG screen :D.

I was just looking this up, but the E6400 screen (as do most other Latitudes) only has a 45% color gamut. That does mean that the color reproduction isn't going to be very good.

Perhaps that is what you are noticing.

Me, I don't give a crap. I need something at least halfway calibrated, but crisp and bright.

Well, I decided to retrun the 6400 and go with the 6500. I ordered the WUXGA which has a 75% gamut and 2 CCFL lamps. Too bad the RGB LED option isn't available yet as I would have tried that.

I'll update when I get it....

I really think the perception of the screen depends on what you're coming from. I'm coming from a 4 year old hp with an excellent screen. This week I went to a bunch of stores looking closely at various laptop screens. The vast majority were similar to the e6400 LED screen in terms of contrast and viewing angles (crappy). Compared to these screens I'd actually consider it average at least. However, the ones that were better were SIGNIFICANTLY better, such as sony sz, z and sr, macbook pro, macbook air (but NOT regular 13.3" macbook), an older 15.4" toshiba, and any 17" wsxga+ or wuxga.

Yeah, my XPS M1730 screen is sooo dim compared to the LED in the 6400, BUT the color and accuracy of the M1730 screen is much better.

Like I said before, you cannot get any better than Sony VAIO lcd's, IMO....

Thanks ...you guys are killing me !

I was initially leaning towards the E6500's WUXGA screen because I've had a WSXGA for the last 3 yrs and can't imagine dropping precious screen rez.

Then I changed my mind to sacrfice some and decided on getting the WXGA+ LED for the longer batt life, brighter and more vibrant screen.

Now with the all these posts I'm not so sure about the LED anymore and thinking of going back to my initial plan for the WUXGA !

Bah ..maybe I'll just get a macbook pro and be done with it
