I don't see any way to change that setting in the M6700. I've seen benchmarks and 2T vs 1T doesn't affect throughput more than a couple percentage points so, for my use, I'm not too worried about altering it.

I make that mistake often so I've gotten used to writing it out in long form. The memory is stable so far. I've experienced no issues. In fact, I'm confident enough that I'm returning the Crucial 32GB (4x8GB) 1600Mhz modules tomorrow.

Awesome, I'm glad you're testing too. I didn't want my results to be an outlier especially after the negative reports about the 4GB 1866Mhz modules. Please post your memtest results when you get a chance. I've been running IntelBurnTest and a few other pieces of custom in-house software that are prone to crashes due to memory issues. Everything has been stable for many hours. I see you have a i7-3920XM. What version of the BIOS (A06 here) are you running?

With SiSoft Sandra 2012 Lite I get about 24.2GB/s (or was it 24.4GB/s? need to write these numbers down) in my test...

    Cheers,
    Alex

    PS: 3920XM, Corsair 10-11-10 @ 1866 and BIOS A6.

Hi to everyone! I was reading this thread since it starts, and finally now when I got my 6700, it is time to join....BTW, i receive it after 6 days since I order it, probably because I live in China where they are making it....

I have a one question, maybe silly, but, as I am planning to use my 6700 only at home (I bought it as my primary CAD, 3D max machine), Would it be better if I take out the battery, as I will keep it all the time plugged in into electricity, or it just doesn't matter?

So, should I take out the battery or not? I will keep it most of the time at home.

    Please advise

I don't think this is necessary. If you keep it plugged in all the time, the battery won't be used anyway, but having it in there is always convenient in case you need to move the machine. Also, one of the laptop "feet" is on the battery so you might get some wobble if you take it out.

You can go to the BIOS and set the battery changing policy to "primarily AC use" which will limit the charging rate and max capacity of the battery, and further extend its life.

Cool! Thank you for the prompt reply...a couple of hours past, and I am still staring at it, haven't turned it on....it looks beautiful! As an architect, designer, whatever, I really didn't expect such a beautiful machine, just expecting for a turbo-horse machine....it surprised me so much, I am very happy......now, just being nervous to turn it on, hope it will not ruin the impression.....hmm, enough of whiskey, lets start ;-)

Well that's a strange circumstance since this is a portable device. In any event, if you're not intending to use it via the battery, I'd just take it out and store it at 40 degrees @ 40% charge. Which if I recall is the standard long term storage capacity.

You could possible extend the life of the battery significantly by doing this, but again, it's would kind of defeats the propose of its portability. You bought the battery to use it, not store it. With that in mind, some people leave the battery in all the time for backup in the event of a power failure. But there are more efficient ways (albeit not as cheap) to accomplish this.

I've booted Ubuntu on mine and it works. I haven't done a detailed check of all of the hardware, though. Most of the stuff is standard enough that it should work fine under recent Linux distros. Not sure if graphics drivers are available for the Quadro K series yet.

I ordered my M6700 on Monday. It will replace my naughty M4500. My new configuration: Core i7-3740QM, 16GB, ATI, 512GB SSD, Bluetooth, Centrino Ultimate-N 6300. I ordered the N Series to reduce costs and want to install Windows 8 Enterprise (from MSDN) on it. Is this a straight forward installation? Are any tricks required? Any hints? Anything to consider?

    Your help is much appreciated.

    Siggi
