I would appreciate hearing the results of your repasting. At least I am not the only one experiencing these temps. It seems that given uniform core usage, core 0 typically runs 10% cooler than the other cores. I suppose that this could come down to processor design, cooling design, or just poor heatsink pasting. I was also wondering if this is perhaps how the XM processors are designed to run - they will run in turbo mode (if needed) until their max temp is reached and then just throttle back to keep the processor below that temp (105C in this case). One thing that made me a little concerned was that Bokeh reported that his temps under the same test (prime95 max heat) only reached 90C. The only thing that could account for the difference (other than the quality of the heatsink pasting) is that those results were from a preproduction M6700 and the processor was a 3920XM (although I can't believe that there would be that much of a difference between the processors).

I setting Windows 7 power menager in performance mode.
But my M4 go at SATA 2 mode.

This will be my new machine for video editing, After Effects, and 3D modeling. I'm pretty sure I'll need the best of both worlds, but not right away, since there is a leaning curve involved.

Nevertheless it is disconcerting when you reach a point and get to the next level but can't move further because your machine in holding you back. I also like to spend most of my time learning the software, so I'm really not much of an under-the-hood type of guy.

Anyway, I could get in just under budget by choosing a k4000 or better k3000 to cut cost. Then should I upgrade at a later time, will the heatsink need any additional attending then? As always, your replies are most appreciated.

If upgrading from NVIDIA to NVIDIA you shouldn't need to change the heatsink. You might want to re-paste it but that's not too big a deal.

    Driver update.

New NVIDIA drivers out this morning for the mobile Quadro cards. The version is 307.45, which is newer than the ones posted on Windows Update (307.21).

If you are moving from K3000M to K4000M existing heatsink is confirmed to be compatible. However if you change your mind to get K5000M later then please call up Dell to seek clarification.
I am not 100% sure if K5000m heatsink is exactly the same as K3000/4000M. I remembered when i called Dell to buy the heatsink for Nvidia the sales person asked me to clarify which one I was looking for; there are 2 types, 1 for K5000M and another one for K3000/4000M. Since I am interested on 680m only so I requested heatsink for K5000m without asking further.

Earlier I read somewhere about Mx600 & Mx700 mSATA and WWAN cannot work together. Even during ordering stage Dell's personnel will not be able to configure both items together.
Today having nothing to do, I tried to unplug my old M4600's Dell HSPA 5550 card and installed into M6700, and it seems working. I have not carried out intensive test on it because installing the driver itself has taken me a lot of time (Dell blocked driver installation of WWAN 5550 card into Mx700). I have the 3G modem connected to Cellular data service and tested using for about 1min only.

I believe there's no reason this will not work in the M6600 and M6700. In the M4600 and M4700, the WWAN and mSATA share the same physical slot so there is no way to install both of them at the same time.

(The only limitation in the M6700 that I'm aware of with regards to WWAN is that you cannot configure a system with WWAN and the IPS display.)

I haven't done it yet due to some unforeseen real-life stuff. When I do, I will let you know. I noticed that Bokeh's unit's build quality is much better than mine. I've noticed several places where there are issues that are not seen on his laptop. I haven't bothered fixing them myself because this laptop is getting exchanged but I suspect the better temps come from a hand-built machine with care taken to make sure everything is perfect.

I have the M6700 with IPS display with a 3rd party mSATA SSD. I added the 5630 (Gobi 3000) WWAN module after the fact. Everything works really well.
