Well, this sucks, for some reasons i can't download the latest drivers for my M6700, i'm guessing something wrong with Dell's servers, still sucks, i was waiting for a firepro update.

I've had problems downloading the brand new ones as well... Just try again periodically and it should work sometime.

    - Any practical ideas on RAID 5 configuration on Precision 6700? (considering 512 Gb SSD drives)
    - Considering the fact that 3rd drive in optical bay has to be a SATA II 3 Gb/s, do you think it may affect the RAID 5 configuration when matched with Primary / Secondary drives?
    - Cons / Pros?
    - Any other RAID preference when it comes to Read / Write speed + Data protection?

Alright, thanks, i hope Dell rolls out a new AMD driver when CCC 12.1 for the radeon gets released, it does bring quite a few improvements in games.

A non RAID SSD is usually fast enough, if you want some data redundancy, you could always go for RAID1, if you want backup, use an external drive and if the data is critical, backup offsite, to tape or use a service like amazon glacier maybe if you don't think you'll access it often.

I wouldn't go RAID 0 if you're afraid of loosing your data, if one drive goes, so does the whole array.

Has anyone noticed that (at least in Europe) the M6700 Covet edition's IPS screen doesn't come with Premium Panel Guarantee?
I've checked on the Dell US/Canada site, and there it still does list it with the Premium Panel Guarantee.

I was considering to the Covet, but I decided not to when I realized it didn't come with the panel guarantee.

Why would they remove the panel guarantee on just the Covet's IPS panel in other countries?

What's actually the difference between the Covet and normal edition of the M6700? As I understand the difference is that Covet version is phoenix red on the outside and there's a glass on the display? Is that all?

Is the Covet screen therefore glossy instead of matte?

Yes, the Covet is Phoenix Red, and it has edge-to-egde Gorilla-glass over it's screen. The glass makes the screen glossy. The glass may also add extra weight, but I'm not sure about that.
I have no idea if it uses the exact same IPS screen in the Covet that the silver base has.
Dell mentions edge-to-edge screen, but doesn't say if it's the glass or the display panel or both, but I believe it's only the glass that's edge-to-edge.
I wouldn't think they'd use a different IPS display behind the glass, but correct me if I'm wrong.

Another difference with the Covet edition I've noticed when configuring, it does not come with the FIPS fingerprint scanner, it only comes with the SWIPE variant.
Does anyone know why? I got mine with the FIPS FP-scanner configured. What are the cons and pros between the SWIPE and FIPS fingerprint scanners?
I realized the SWIPE scanner has changed since the M4400(/M6400). (Last computer I had the SWIPE sensor on)
Only issue I have with the FIPS scanner is that your fingerprint remains visible on the scanner, so I end up swiping my finger over it again to remove my print.
Don't know how much the keyboard has changed since the M4600/M6600, but also important in combination with a fingerprint scanner, my fingerprints remain very visible on the keyboard.
Does the M4700/M6700 keyboard have a better coating or texture to prevent this from happening?
I don't like the idea of someone potentially being able to breach the security by getting my fingerprint off the keyboard.

I was just notified that my order has shipped... 29 Oct when it was scheduled for 8 Nov. Hopefully it will be correct... and arrive soon given the stormy weather. The rep said he had priority shipping on it, but the website states Canada Standard.

Anyways, it looks like my M6700 with RGB IPS might finally become reality!

Do you know what date your computer's status went into production? My order was submitted two days after yours (18th of October) and was in pre-production until it finally went into production on the 27th of October.
I expect it to be ready for shipping today (30th of October), if so, I should receive it by Friday.
