Then you likely have a hardware issue, especially if the Dell logo doesn't display at boot. I would call Dell to have it fixed.

hello. can you tell me about dell m6700 1600x900 screen, please? is it TN or MVA or else? good colors, angles, contrast? much better than regular 1600x900 TN (for example like in dell xps l702x) ?

TN, but aside from that i don't know more, from my perspective, you'd have to be crazy (or have bad eye sight) not to get the 1080p panel. I can understand that some people may want the 1600x900 panel, but i think you'll have a hard time finding people using it instead of the 1080p TN or IPS displays.

Chances are that it's at least a decent matte TN panel, my experience with 1600x900 panels is limited to 14" displays, sorry.

Not much information on that panel — I don't think I've seen any posts discussing it (from people who have one). Like tijo said, you should get the 1080p panel. If you think the high resolution makes things too small, you can bump up Windows's DPI setting (in fact the Dell stock Windows install has it set higher than 100% by default).

I do know that it's been mentioned (by official Dell folks) that the 1600x900 panel has lower color gamut coverage and lower brightness than the 1080p panel (even the non-IPS one).

i cant use screens with resolution more than 1366x768 for 15 inches and 1600x900 for 17 inches, because with higher resolution all are very small and i cant work comfortable. if i set 125% then there is no clarity of text and elements of web sites. my eyes are very tired. i tried 17 fullhd and 15 1600x900 many times. just impossible. i use 17 1600x900 with tahoma 9 and without Clear Type. it is ideal. i just want better other parameters of the screen but cant find anything =(

Given the typical profile of someone who buys a M6700 or who gets one from work, most will want a 1080p display for the extra real estate or better specs of the PremierColor display and you are more likely to run into the power users on NBR, you end up with very few M6700 owners who have the 1600x900 display.

I would like to say that Dell wouldn't dare to put an awful panel in the M6700, but since i haven't seen it...

My guess would be that it's better than the Inspiron's displays, but it's just that, a guess.

Dell has posted a BIOS update for the built-in camera, which notes Windows 8 support. I'm not sure what it does, since the camera worked fine for me in Windows 8 without the update.

Anyway, I downloaded it and it failed to finish flashing the first time (a little scary) but worked the second time.

Flashing firmware updates is one of the scariest thing when it comes to computers imo because if it goes wrong, you end up bricking something most of the time.

Glad it worked, what i'm hoping to see soon is updated video drivers for the firepro.
