Hmm. Over the weekend and on Monday, a number of Windows 8 drivers were posted. Yesterday some of them were gone and today all of them are gone.

Just in case anyone else would like to try them out, I managed to grab:

    - Freefall sensor (the Windows 7 driver does not work)
    - IDT audio
    - Intel management engine
    - Intel rapid start
    - NVIDIA 306.14 (there's a newer one on Windows Update)
    - Touchpad

I think this is all of the ones that were posted, except the Firepro driver.

Arg! The touchpad driver now reverses the scroll direction by default, like on a Mac.

Note: May not be the final drivers, use at your own risk, etc.

Is it just me, or the Dell M6600/M6700 design changes are reminiscent of the previous Elitebook model, the 8740W? Similar brownish (can I say professional, but dull?) color on the handrest and above the black keyboard (just like the 8740W) and the added small "steps" on the key edges (again, just like the 8740W). I actually much prefer the all-black look of the open M6400/M6500, though I'd prefer a darker outside case, e.g. gunmetal. Thus, I also prefer the boxier look and the colour of the W Elitebooks, although the lack of Optimus support is a serious minus. I wonder what are the temperatures and the battery life on the 8770W, but the user's thread is rather short.. Anybody still buying the HP's these days or what? :)

Is it just me, or dell online system builder lets us to select ati m6000 with IPS? I didn't finalized building, though - win8 isn't compatible with some must have options (trial software, sic!).

Yes, and it is a nice option to have.
However a few questions remain in the wild (for ATI+IPS):
    a) does it fully support 10-bit color?
    b) does it support enduro (will support)?
    c) working time when off-grid?
I'm actually interested in ATI+IPS. Though, knowing details would greatly help in making a final decision.

    a) Yes.
    b) No. M6700 does not support Enduro (IPS or not). Anyway, you don't even get Optimus with NVIDIA+IPS. The Intel GPU can't drive a 10-bit display.
    c) Probably about the same as without IPS actually. Maybe someone with an ATI card in their M6700 can answer. I'm guessing about 4 hours if the workload is light?

Actually, for internet browsing and word, you'll get between 5 and 6 hours with the AMD GPU. That is as long as you don't play any videos in which case the GPU will clock higher and you'll get between 4 and 5 hours, close to 4 hours of DVD playback on a brand new battery.

So, Dell is now offering the IPS with the M6000? (Yeah too lazy to do my own research right now :p)

Thanks. Though I hoped that in case of the AMD there could be some trick (upscale of 8bit signal from iGPU to 10bits, basic bit-wise shift, for ex.). Oh, well. So, I guess iGPU isn't usable even as a compute block?

Yes and it is interesting if rgb leds with IPS are more efficient than wled (or rg+b) with TN. If that's the case, of course. Wouldn't it be sweet?

We have dell partnership program (though on a personal level it's not stretched to precisions), but there is someone responsible for purchasing/ordering. Probably will meet her (should help to convince rep! he he) and give extra details on what to expect as a discount :)

rbg led ips use more electricity compare to wled as far as I remember.
