Dell Precision M6700 Owners Thread

All NVIDIA GPUs support Optimus on the M6700.

A possible alternative: if you physically remove the AMD GPU from your M6600, the system will boot up and run on the integrated Intel GPU, giving you the same battery savings as Optimus. The downsides would be, reduced GPU performance (though still completely adequate for Photoshop and light video editing), and the HDMI and DisplayPort outputs on the system would not function.

I have the following problem:

After BIOS update to A17 - UEFI boot doesn't work anymore.
I found someone who has the same problem and he reported that even downgrading won't get it to work again.

Anybody else?

 

A17 here and no issue with UEFI.

 

I downgraded to A15 and got UEFI entries again and was able to update to A17 again and UEFI is still working.
The downgrade from A17 to A15 although gave me weird infos. Unknown version, unknown vendor, unknown model.

 

Is it possible to get a blacklisted WWAN to work?
If I'm right the Dells have a WWAN-whitelist and the correct model for this gen is 5560. But I have a 5570 and don't want to buy a 5560. Additonally the 5570 has 4G.

 

Did you try it? I don't think Dell whitelists these devices in BIOS.

 

Hi all, I want to install an HDD in the dvd bay. Can anyone point me, please, to a video or a tutorial to do so?
I've seen a video on you tube to remove the dvd, mainly I need to know if I need to buy an adaptor or something to use with a 7mm form factor HDD

I know that the SSD limit is 500gb, but the HDD!? is the dvd bay a SATA2?
Maybe is already been written here in one of the 321 pages, but google didn't help to find the right page.

It is a caddy that is the size of an optical drive, that you can mount a regular 2.5" SATA drive in. You will have to remove the small mounting bracket from the back of the optical drive that came with your system and install it on this thing. (That might not make sense now, but it is easy to figure out and it will make sense once you pull the optical drive out.)

You don't have to get this specific model of caddy. There are lots of choices. Just make sure that the one that you get is for a 9.5mm-tall optical drive bay, and you will want one with a bezel (the part that you can see from the outside once installed) that is fully rectangular. Search your favorite site for something like "9.5mm optical caddy" and you will find some choices.

There is no capacity limit, you can any SATA drive up to 4 TB (the current max available capacity for a 9.5mm-tall drive). If you have seen a capacity limit in the system specs, that is just reflecting the size of drives that were actually available at the time. The DVD bay connector is SATA-2.
