Dell has certified that 16 GB 1866 MHz will run at advertised frequency, I do not believe they did the testing with 32 GB 1866 MHz, but it could very well work. I believe at the time that they ran their tests, no 8 GB modules existed past 1600 MHz.

This is my CPU: ARK | Intel® Core i7-3840QM Processor (8M Cache, up to 3.80 GHz)

Are those limits listed there based on testing of what's available at that time, or is 32GB memory really it's definite limit?

What if 16GB SO-DIMM memory modules get released and I'd get four of those installed?
DRAM Memory Modules | 16 Gigabyte DDR3 unbuffered DIMMs | Intelligent Memory

Anyway, I'm still deciding between the timings on these Corsair cards, no idea which one would be better:
    Corsair Vengeance 1.5V CMSX16GX3M2A1866C10 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM 10-11-10-30
    or
    Corsair Vengeance 1.35V CMSX16GX3M2B1866C10 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM 10-10-10-32

Another option I've found is the Crucial, with better timing:
    Crucial Ballistix Sport 1.35V BLS2K8G3N18AES4 / BLS2C8G3N18AES4 / BLS2C8G3N18AES4CEU 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM 10-10-10-30
But does Crucial match Corsair's level of quality?

I've also checked Kingston's HyperX memory, they only listed 10-10-10 for the timing, but from their specifications (http://www.kingston.com/datasheets/HX318LS10IBK2_16.pdf) I managed to calculate that the last bit of the timing (tRAS) 34ns results into x-x-x-32, so it has the same specifications as the low-voltage Corsair.

Those are a no go, there's something with the Intel Ivy Bridge memory controller that caps you at 32 GB.

It does. In fact, quite satisfactorily I may add. I read 1867 MHz.
All my research points to this conclusion as well. Haswell, may be different.

It's a no go with Haswell too as far as I know, if my memory serves me right, Intel didn't entirely respect some specification and their memory controllers can't properly handle 64 GB, AMD has no such issue, but mobile AMD CPUs are, well, crap compared to Intel's and have been for a long time. Their APUs aren't, but any power user will stay away from those since their performance isn't up to part with Intel's offerings and anyone who needs 64 GB is a power user.

I HAD a m6700 with K5000 + RGB IPS display that recently got stolen and I would like to replace it with an identical model. I've come across a few factory refurbished ones with the K5000 but no RGB panels. Could this easily be upgraded by swapping panels with a LG Phillips LP173WF3 or is it more complicated ? I can't get an answer from Dell and someone else told me I might need to replace the whole lid assembly because it is thicker....

Sorry to hear that. Yes, the RGB display requires some extra hardware. The cable to connect the display isn't the same, that I know for certain.

Would I be better off getting one with the IPS RGB screen and upgrading the video card ? Can any K5000m card be used or does it have to be a dell specific card ?

Thanks for the advice. I just pulled the trigger on a refurbished m6700 k5000, and found a kit to upgrade the panel to RGB, I'll probably have to take it completely apart to access the motherboard and hook up the new cable.... Has anyone done this before ? There's also a few different versions of the IPS panel : LP173WF3 (slb1 through slb4) I think slb1 was the panel used by dell and 2/3 were HP. Will the other ones also work ? And what are the differences ?
