Question: I'm looking at adding the WWAN card to my Dell Precision M6700 and I think I've found that the chip is the 'DELL 5560 DW5560 WWAN Mobile Broadband HSDPA GPS Ericsson F5321 Mini Card'. From what I can tell the chip is not LTE, so does the Dell Precision M6700 support a LTE chipset, if so what's the part number so I can order one directly from Dell?

I have WiFi and a wired connection at the office most of the time...but when Comcast goes out...which it does frequently(grr)...I want to ensure I have connectivity and so I'm looking into the chip. I don't want to but a hotspot from AT&T/Verizon as it'd be one more thing to charge and carry around...might as well get the chip...because the machine already weighs in at 8 pounds...why not add a few more ounces.

I was veagly interested when I first got my machine and nobody answered. Maybe there's more information on it now but the only things I could find was directly from Dell.

When I called the providers for their brand card they said I needed to bring the laptop in but I just wasn't interested in them monkeying around inside.

Try dell forum or use the pro support to get in touch with a dell "engineer".

I've been using this card for 2 years now (no LTE but HSPA-UMTS aka 3G) in my M6700 and it works fine (at least in Germany). I was looking for an LTE-card but the only one I found (2 years ago) didn't have the right frequencies for Germany (afair only 700MHz). It seems there are more cards available now: DELL Wireless 580x (5802,5804,5808) -> maybe one of them fits your needs...

    Cheers,
    Alex

It's been a while since I've posted here, and I'm sorry to say that I might have to sell my beast in the near future. I'm not sure what it's worth at this point, so perhaps I can get a price check here?

I've got the non-IPS 1080p panel, backlit keyboard, i7-3740QM, Quadro K4000M, and 16GB RAM. Storage is a 256GB Samsung mSATA SSD and a 500GB Momentus XT hybrid HDD. Overall it's in pretty good shape, although there is a small scratch on the top of the LCD lid, a minor 'clicking' sound coming from the right display hinge when opening, and a tiny dent on the leading edge of the laptop. All told, what's it worth? Would $1800 be a good price these days?

    Hi,

I've got a beast of an M6700 too but don't want to sell it, I want to upgrade it :D

    I have the 3940xm, 32g ram, k4000, 512SSD and 2x 750 sata HDs in it.

I want to replace the k4000m for a 780m and was wondering if anyone would be interested in taking the K4000m off me? I can sell it through ebay if desired.

I would also like to know if anyone has a dell related 780m for sale that would work inside my 6700? Or should I just pick one up off ebay?

I'd also consider a k5000 although for the price It's better to go with the 780m I guess.

Or I could just sell the whole laptop I guess and buy a new beast with an 880m inside it already ?

I still have 2 years warranty left on the m6700 also.

    Matt

I recommend option #2 since your ram and your CPU will be severely underutilized. You're basically taking a workstation platform and turning it into a gaming machine. As for 780m being better then the k5000m, also incorrect. Rather, they are two different GPUs (or at least tuned differently) with two different applications in mind.

Its like saying that a Corvette is better than a HD pickup truck. Well not if your intent is to pull a heavy load or carry lots of cargo. That's the equivalent difference between your 780/880 and your Quadro. Although each to a point can do what the other is best at.

Incidentally, it may interest you to know that the k5000m had been upgraded (k5100m) and is now even more capable all around including its ability to game.

And that the K5100m is close in performance to a 780m. If you plan on doing CAD on your Precision, the 780m would be a downgrade compared to the K4000m.

I do a fair bit of 3ds Max work but that's pretty heavy on the processor as I use Mental Ray for the rendering, the only benefit from the K4000m comes by way of the viewport rendering which to be honest I never really had much trouble with on my previous M17x R4 with a 680m inside.

I guess I'm trying to get the best of both worlds perhaps? I know if you have a k5000m you can use geforce drivers to get a bit more gaming performance but what about the K4000m, are there any equivalent hacked drivers for that card?

If not I may end up selling and getting something else...

A little bit different than what you are dealing with...but I've recently started using Adobe Premiere Pro and have found that my DELL K3000m isn't recognized as a 'Certified' nVidia card so the program will not allow me to utilize the mercury engine for rendering purposes. The card is supposed to support Cuda, but apparently Dell and nVidia don't play well together. No solution is offered on either vendors websites so you might just as well be in the same boat as me...good luck.
