Hmm, well I did download it and it does work sort of fine, however it's a 50/50 of booting to a black screen. On the K5000 with the updated BIOS. Any other versions work well? Just anything before 321.10 i'm guessing?

Well, I had my M6600 with the 900p for a while, then moved up to the FHD. The former was clearly worse in terms of brightness, contrast, vertical angles and gamut (but I cannot provide any figures). Not abysmal by notebook standards (but that's not saying much), yet hardly comparable to the two FHD's I've used (the LG and the ChiMei).

If monitor quality matters, go for the FHD. Plus the difference in resolution is not that great. And you'll soon get used to 1080p anyway (I did so on a 15.6", which horrified me at first).

Strange, I also have K5000M with updated BIOS and I haven't had a boot-to-black-screen issue. Anyway, yes, 321.10 is the latest version I've found that doesn't have the problem but older versions work as well.

Thanks everyone for your replies on the 1600x900 screen quality...I don't see 16:10 panels on the horizon anytime soon, if ever, so I'll probably go with the 1920x1080, I'll wind up connecting it to a Dell S2740L for the majority of the time, and when needed I'll use the laptop screen, my main concern is eyestrain -- I had the D830 1920x1200, and stuff was just too small for daily work use.

Those two extra inches make quite a difference, enough for me to be running at 100% DPI on my M6700 rather than 125% as well as having the taskbar set to small icons. You are right that you won't be seeing 16:10 on laptops anytime soon. It is one of the reasons that made me splurge for a Fujitsu Q584 Windows tablet, but that isn't really a discussion for the M6700 thread.

You will not regret the better quality of the display and like I said, you can try 125% DPI, it shouldn't break any UI made by third parties even if it was made by monkeys and it'll give you a tad of extra size. Dell's stock install may actually be set to 125%, I'd have to pop the HDD that originally came with my M6700 back in to be sure though.

Thanks, the first thing I do with a computer I receive is usually wipe it and do my own clean install and use the settings I prefer out of the box afterwards, so when it comes to stock install, I'm usually not that knowledgeable of what comes with it.

Funny, I 'm not seeing any issue at all with this. As a matter of fact I connect to a 19" 1600x900 display when I'm away from home and the text just seem Granny Smith jumbo.

When I get home and connect to my 27" the space makes me feel lost at sea. I actually shorten the browser to feel more relaxed. Look it:

    Shortened browser.JPG

I did that once and didn't like it. Go figure.

BTW, I remember you mentioning a connection to shutting down while connected to the monitor. If I disconnect first, the hibernate function restarted normally.

Otherwise, the laptop display is black and undetected upon restart and displaying only on the external monitor -- unless I restart (losing all the saved data and defeating the purpose).

Is it possible to get a new version of PremierColor for Win8.1? It doesn't work very well with Nvidia card and latest official driver under Win8.1
