I was afraid you were going to say that. I'm pretty comfy with working inside a machine (i.e. replacing hardware) and with software, but I've never flashed a video card. And since I have been drooling over finally owning a Precision, and now finally have one in my possession, I'm a little worried old man 'Murphy' (as in "if anything can go wrong it will" fame) will have his way with me. Are you able to provide me with the K3000M v.80.04.33.00.33 vBios?

Edit: Scratch that request Aaron44126. It appears that I misread the info in the posts you and tDodd made a few pages back. My K3000M does in fact already have the updated vBios, so hopefully all will go well and won't experience any blank screen issues. I will keep Optimus enabled just in case, but would like to have the option to turn it off.

Even if you end up in a bad situation, you can pull the CMOS battery which will reset the BIOS to defaults. This enables Optimus (if your system supports it) so you'll be in a position to access the system again.

But if you have the correct, updated vBIOS, you shouldn't have this problem.

Okay, I got my optical bay to HDD replacement caddy from China and the install was without issue. A simple plug and play affair and the drive shows up on Windows right behind my C drive.

I did however, have to remove the retention screw from the optical drive and screw it into the HDD caddy as it did not come with its own.

I still need my optical drive, as I burn and play blu-ray, so I also ordered an external DVD case. Its very pasticy, but at least its slot loader compatible so I don't have to deal with annoying door compatibility.

But now that I have committed heavily in raw photography/video editing, I needed the extra 1TB additional storage capacity as a part of my notebook more. As much as I hate it, I will have to go MBP's external connection route for the optical drive from hence forth.

    There's an LTE 4G mini-card: "Dell Wireless 5800 LTE/4G" but they say it's not for the M6700; I cannot understand why it should work with a surf-stick, but not with this card ... any ideas I'm grateful;

It took me nearly a year to get my external monitor but I'm loving it ever second. I would have preferred the 4k monitor but I try to stay clear of first adopters.

So far the QHD has performed flawlessly with any bleed being non detectable. White screen, black screen reveals no deal pixels so far, with only a very slight bluing in the lower right corner. And we're talking so slight you have to stare at it, and away for some time to notice it.

I wanted to order a pair but decided to wait to see if the complaints had been fixed. I'm happy to say they have. So for the ultimate editing setup, I will put monitor number two on my list. I give this screen a 98!

Speaking about 4K: I finally got my SONY VW500 connected to the M6700 in 4K. Wasn't easy but worth the effort :)
I needed a DisplayPort to HDMI adapter (after a few trials I found: "Club3D DisplayPort to HDMI 3D" (CAC-1053)) and I had to get a newer NVIDIA driver (334.95).
After that he offered me: 4096x2160@23/24 + 3840x2160@23/24/30Hz.

Because of the newer driver I had to deinstall PremierColor und calibrate the display by myself (with a Spyder4Elite). New I got a wide gamut desktop that's massively oversaturated - but PS and so on looks great :)
And I got back 30bit colors!
BTW: There's a Firefox plugin that color-corrects all images...

Now I am still thinking about the DELL UP3214Q: is the DisplayPort1.2 in the M6700 capable of 4k/60p in 30bit (and will the monitor take it)?

    Cheers,
    Alex

Well those are the specification for DP 1.2 so as far as I know it should work. But I don't have a 4k monitor to give you a personal review.

Finally got my m6700 fully configured to my liking. Took me this long due to time constraints, but it's done. A few interesting things happened along the way though. I installed an Intel 520 series SSD after receiving it, and did a fresh install of Win8, then upgraded to 8.1. Did the install with AHCI ( have a 2nd HDD for storage but no Raid enabled), UEFI, Secure Boot enabled, and all was working well with it docked on a pro2x docking station. But I could not get it to display the dell splash screen during boot while it was docked. The Bios is A12, and I have a DP to HDMI cable connecting the dock to the external monitor, but every time I tried to boot-up and press F2 to go into BIOS screen, there was nothing. No signal to external monitor. Opening the laptop screen (while it was still docked) would let me see the bios screen displayed on the laptop screen no problem, so it was booting alright, but no output to the external monitor. So the only way it would display to external monitor during post, and before Win8.1 login screen, was to disable secure boot and enable legacy option ROMs. Works fine now. Anyone else having this issue with A12?

Another strange thing, is my 3740qm, is hitting a max of 4.05ghz (as recorded by HWinfo64) on all four cores when I open up Autocad 2013 (and a few other apps). I have optimus disabled, and am running high performance power profile, but I thought this processor was limited to 3.7 on 1 core and 3.5ghz on multiple active cores. This has not been overclocked. The temps have never exceeded 67 deg. C. on this yet, and the fan almost never kicks into high speed. (incidentally, I have the laptop and dock tucked away on the sliding keyboard tray on my desk. It sits under the desk top surface all the time. Just fits, but is totally concealed all the time).

Anyone else seen their Ivy 37xxqm reach 4.0ghz stock?
