    Ok, cool. :)

I had you in mind when I posted it - especially since creative files consume a lot of space, and rewrites/GC when modifying/deleting files.

I still have some trepidation about the longevity associated with SSD's. Certainly don't want to wear it out before its time because of ignorance.

I have a last question before I head out to install the new SSD/OS.

I spent some time reorganizing files/folders etc. prior to reimaging the new drive. One of my concerns was the renaming and or relocating of folders and what constitutes a physical move for the files within.
Is every file within the folder affected or is there a table in windows that keeps track of names and location pointers and is the only thing modified by these actions.

In other words, do I need to be concerned about my folder structuring and the amount of changes I make to them so as to not add unnecessary wear?

Renaming a a file or moving it elsewhere on the same drive is done by just moving some pointers around on the file system. It doesn't re-write the entire contents of the files to your drive. Rest easy. :)

    Thanks Aaron.

    I'm resting easier.

I wouldn't even begin to know where to find the info for that. Having a big fat HDD I never gave much thought to it either.

Well the beast arrived. and damn, its quick! Those solid state drives are just a dream to work with.

Even better, i have it running on 3 external monitors (2 run from the nvidia card and 1 on the intel card). If i open the laptop up things go a bit crazy and it messes with the external display running from the intel card, but its never going to be opened anyway so alls good :)

    Hello Deadboot,
Hope you will see this message (i don't know how to send personnal message on this forum), because i have the same problem with a new M6700 with IPS screen : Each time i wait several hours, the next boot will be with the screen OFF, the HDMI outpout OFF and only the VGA outpout ON. I have to reboot to see the screen working. So, how did you solve your problem ? What is the defective part ?

Because the Dell support asked me to re-install windows, asked me to change the HDD, and is thinking changing the video card and motherboard, but perhaps it wont solve the problem...

    Here's something to try:
Turn OFF then ON the wireless network switch before you initiate lid close or sleep.
I had this problem. Reinstalled driver, went away for 5 weeks and returned. Next time it started doing this tried doing the OFF/ON switch and all has been fine. It won't have to be done every time. Only when it acts up. Mine hasn't. Timing was a clue.

    Hello everyone!!!

I will be a new owner of a M6700 as soon as I can figure out ONE thing!

While I would love to have the IPS monitor....can't swing the justification for it as I am NOT a video/image professional and the cost my family cannot justify.

With that being said, I need to make a decision between the AMD FirePro 6000 2Gb -versus- the NVIDIA Quadro K3000M 2Gb.

I have been out of the personal laptop purchases for 8 years now and have been catching up rapidly.

From what I can gather the AMD does not have powersaving features such as the NVIDIA....I have read this thread a few times but am getting a bit confused again...

The price difference is around $200 or so between configurations.

Either card I think would be fine for simple video editing and simple adobe applications. I wouldn't even understand all the things that Bokeh does....(very cool job you have Bokeh!!!). Battery life extension however, is a pretty big deal if the information in the thread seems to indicate to me and I should go with the NVIDIA.

Any other thoughts? I have to purchase this either today or tomorrow as the other laptop I have is now DEAD. Parts on order...LOL!

    Mike :)

As you most likely know, Optimus will allow for power savings by allowing the NVIDIA card to power down when not in use. However, I hear that the AMD card will use less power than the NVIDIA if the NVIDIA card happens to be on most of all of the time. In any case, if you are not doing anything graphics-intensive, you will get better power savings with the NVIDIA+Optimus option. This could add an hour or two to your battery runtime if you are doing light work --- or more, if you are very conscious about your power usage.

Note, using the HDMI or DisplayPort to drive an external monitor will force the NVIDIA card to be powered on all of the time. (But in such a case you would probably be plugged in to an outlet so it doesn't matter much.)

Thanks for this information. I tried but no success... :(
I'm thinking about a compatibility problem between the AMD firepro M6000 and the IPS screen !?
Depending of the country, it is sometime not possible to buy on Dell website a M6700 IPS with the AMD firepro M6000, you must choose an nVidia.
Someone already saw an IPS M6700 working with the firepro M6000 ?
