Check your event manager and see if it shows any recurring wireless connection issues - irregardless of whether it always works when accessing it.
At first I noticed a timing issue - like always in the morning but then sometimes it would do it during the day after a short period from being put to sleep or lid closed and even at startup.
Problem is that a glimmer of light is there during initial startup in all cases before being blank.

I think it has to do with the ACPI and the signal gets blocked or disrupted.

I'm not arguing here - - the LCD could be just as guilty.

Alway try the simple solution first.

I've had my new m6700 for about 4 days and have this issue with the power down over night. As if the sleep or hibernate won't release yet the system is on. Only a 4 second power button hard restart works, a poor solution for a machine the price of a decent 2nd hand car.

To be fair its the ONLY glitch and I've been working this laptop really hard :)

These machines have complex drivers and getting them to all work together in an imperfect windows environment is at least really hard. Sometimes the factory image has its own inherent behaviors. Add to that all the Windows updates to hopefully not screw that up any worse ... and well you get the idea.

If you don't try to use some simple solutions you'll end up with a machine containing all refurbished parts.

Hey Guys, I have a problem with my M6700 and I hope you can help me solve it.

When I turn on the computer on battery (fully charged) the computer turns on but the screen doesn't come on. I know the computer is on because I hear the hard drive and the fan goes on but the screen doesn't come on. Nothing works unless I force shut it down by holding the power button and dock it in the docking station or just plug the adapter in. The screen continues to be on even if I unplug it after I turn it on while its plugged in, but then when I close the lid and open it again, the screen doesn't come on again. I've tried diffrent settings with the fn+f8 and even with the "PC screen only" option, the same problem persists. any ideas what I should do?

I'm not sure how long its been like this since I always using a docking station with an external monitor or sometimes use both the laptop screen and the external screen at the same time, but still with the computer in its dock. I'm running windows 8 and the graphic card is the K5000.

    thanks!

I've just docked mine and the two connected monitors came on after hibernation resume but the main display still required me to go into display settings and instruct it to extend to this display. Pretty poor.

Considering the complexity of the average computer nowadays, it would be a godsend to receive a perfect machine. As far a glitches go, this one is a minor inconvenience.
Something I recognized just the other day as I passed the rows of used car lots.

I have left my M6700 on overnight many times. The only shutdown I ever had was from forgetting to disable Windows Update.

Actually I have to say, this is not quite as minor an inconvenience as I thought. At work, just now, left it alone for about 40 mins whilst docked. Could not wake it up without hard rebooting and lost work. So sadly I'm probably going to have to hassle Dell to fix it - it's quite a bummer. This has just happened but it was very inconvenient.

My Clevo I7 never did anything remotely like this. Though I did have to take apart the screen casing to untrap some wires to fix a screen glitch in it's first weeks.

Did you at least try a previous post: enable your power button to sleep the computer. Sleep the computer. Close the lid. Open the lid. Awake the computer. You may be able to avoid the hard-resets.

Edit: Also, if you boot to a blank screen and you have DDPA (fingerprint reader enabled) you can do [tab] [tab] [enter] and it will click the login screen shutdown button.
