You shouldn't need to solder anything to install a WWAN card. The card fits into the slot (you'll need a screw to secure it) and the antenna leads just snap on to the connectors on the card (this can be tricky but they are secure once connected).

ah, great. I'm happy about this thread. I've spent around 1.5 hrs in wait loops to get a technician with no avail, had to repeat my story about the screw rolling around to six different people only to end up in their control-centre again and again ... they also didn't answer my mail about technical questions. The guy who had sold it to me mailed that he has no communication-line to their factory (!) Forget about technical support there. Once they've got your money, you're done.

PS if anyone knows wether the power plug socket is the same like in these? :

    •Inspiron 600M Series
    •Inspiron 8500 Series
    •Inspiron 8600 Series
    •Latitude D500 Series
    •Latitude D600 Series
    •Latitude D800 Series

    thanks!

The power plug is the same for pretty much all Dell laptops but for the Precision M6700 you need to get a power supply that can output at least 210 watts... which is more than the power supplies that come with any of those machines will put out.

The M6700 will run on a lower power supply with reduced performance.

The M6700 comes with a 240W unit if i recall correctly, but given how cool it stays even when my M6700 is under heavy load, i'm guessing that Dell decided to use a slightly oversized PSU which imo is a good thing.

I want to buy a car-adapter with 120 watts capacity; In my case it will happen only very rarely that I need more. One dell-guy at least had a good idea about this: choosing the bios-option to load the battery only when switched off will give use to the total amount of 120 watts. We already had this topic about how much power is needed a few pages back in this thread

it would be very nice if someone had a comparison here, me too, I had the impression that it was more bulky than on my current samsung; thanks for your input

Talking about just physical size? Check Bokeh's pics in his M6600 thread. (M6600 and M6700 come with the same power supply, the 240 watt one.)

Aaron, do you mean the 240W thick one or the slim model?

I had it already in my hands before sending it back, but the available car-chargers are for the above mentioned series of latitude and inspiron, so I need an opinion about wether it's the same on these; but of course I can buy one and then send it back if it doesn't fit

It comes with the slim one. The thick one is actually 210 watt (which also works, I think the docking stations usually come with that one).

Yup, slim model and I'm glad it's the slim, it's easier to fit in a laptop bag without having a huge bulge.
