Yes, it's the best "Pro" card for laptops. It will outperform the 680m in business apps that use CUDA (cad, etc.) and it is only marginally outperformed by the 680m for gaming.

Well, let me be the first then. :D I haven't received the email notification yet, but sometime this morning the online status for my Covet changed to Shipped with a new estimated delivery of tomorrow (8/16). It was ordered on 7/31 with the original estimated delivery date of 9/13. FedEx shows the shipment pick-up at 7:51am in NASHVILLE, TN so with any luck, I'll have it tomorrow... Fingers Crossed!!

Does the k5000m only marginally surpass the 680m for cad? Or the major outperformance justify the major difference in price?

Congrats for the status change!! Fingers crossed my status changes before Friday! Let us know how you like it

I ended up ordering one through my local Dell representative, and was thoroughly surprised that got a damn nice price.
Mine will have a M6000 though, will post some benchmarks if no one has by the time I get it (some 20 days from now).

    I'm awaiting those M6000 benchmarks :)

This dell M6700 looks nice, but honestly the only thing I miss is a superb screen. And as I need the inside mobile broadband modem (I hate sticks) ips is a no go sadly.

I wonder when will the super amoled and better amoled screen's come to the precision line (or to any notebook). I love it on my tab 7.7.

Could someone please try Intel XTU utility in combination with ThrottleStop and see if the CPU can be OC'ed? Should work with the 3720QM, 3820QM, 3920XM.

I've been interested in that question as well and all of my research indicate that they're operationally identical:

Basically whatever the 680 can do, the k5000m can do. However, the pro card does have the advantage in that it has been turned to be more robust during extended operation; and is certified for stability while performing specified operations.

Here is a real world benchmark I just completed. It takes about 12,000 records and does a rebuild of a local SQLServer database. It's quite involved, as you can see from the elapsed times. I would say this is a test of memory and disk. I ran it on my Precision 6600 and 6700, here are their configurations:

    Mobile Precision 6700
    3rd Gen Intel Core i7-3920XM
    16.0GB, DDR3-1866MHz SDRAM
    NVIDIA Quadro K5000M with 4GB GDDR5
    512GB 2.5" (SATA3) Mobility Solid State Drive
    Windows 7 Ultimate, 64-bit

    Mobile Precision 6600
Intel Core i7-2920XM Extreme Quad Core 2.50GHz
    16.0GB, DDR3-1600MHz SDRAM
    NVIDIA Quadro 5010M with 4GB GDDR5
512GB Dell Mobility Solid State 3 Drive
    Windows 7 Ultimate, 64-bit

nothing else running on the system, user-initiated that is.

The 6600 completed the work in 8:58:18 (HH:MM:;SS)
The 6700 completed the work in 3:22:36 (HH:MM:SS)

substantially faster! I didn't think it would be that fast. This is work I need to do periodically so this was well worth the investment!

I think you have a typo in machine name. Anyway, have you any other personal comments or observations? Anything unusual that occurred during the test or was it an uneventful affair?

Also, anyone care to post the Windows Index rating? With computers advancing as fast as they are, I suspect W8 will have these grading standards revised.

That is quite a time saving (presume the 2nd one is the M6700)! Apart from the config you gave, are both machines equal in terms of programmes installed and available memory on the SSD etc?
