Is it possible to put a GTX 1070 GPU in it? I'm curious because I've seen someone put a NVIDIA Quadro P5000M(which has similar specs to a GTX 1070) in this particular laptop so I just want to know if I can get it work, and what heatsink mods I need to perform so that it cools properly. Also what kind of GTX 1070 do I need to get? Gecube? or would an MSI 1070 would work?

NVIDIA Quadro P5000M in a Dell Precision M6700 confirmed working

NO , that thread cannot represent the community. None of other user can replicate that. I ended up wasted a lot of money in that hole.
Unless you can find that particular ES version P5000. None other Retailed P3/4/5000 reported to work with M6x00. Can almost conclude that Pascal is not supported by M6x00. Retailed card flashed with ES vbios did not work with M6x00, only Alienware managed to get through.

Even if you still insist to try, u must have the IPS screen M6700 in order to see it post. Pascal did not support LVDS.

Oh so it's only that particular card so neither a GeCube or MSI will work thanks

How about a Zbook 17 or a HP Elitebook?

I heard that someone got a GTX 1070 in the HP Zbook 15 G1 so I wonder if the same results can be done on a 17 G1 or G3 maybe an elitebook with a Ivy Bridge CPU

I have no idea about other brands, but general knowledge can tell the info is suspicious. HP Zbook 15 G1 ...?? That can only fit half size MXM-A card, how can a MXM-B full size 1070 card fit into the laptop?

Well he said he used dremel work and solder reflow mods just to get it to work

He also used the Zotac GTX 1070 maybe that might have helped I'm not to sure though

Wow... that is amazing, beyond my skill and can't comment more. You need his advice for mission impossible level of modding.

Do you guys know what is the best GPU I could use with this laptop

Do you guys think a GTX 1070 will work or will I have to go with another laptop

Something like a HP Elitebook 8770W, or a HP Zbook

M6700 has eDP but it is only used if you have the IPS display. Other displays use LVDS.

Attempts to get the Quadro P5000 (Pascal) working in the M6700 and M6800 have come up negative... It doesn't work. One user has the P5000 working with the IPS display in the M6700 (with some compromises, like broken brightness control), but it will not work with Optimus -- the only possible option if you have an LVDS display. I'm not hopeful that the GeForce 1070 will fare any better. I think your best option for a GPU upgrade in these machines is a GeForce 980M or Quadro M5000M.

Yeah, but their VRM is different than those in the Maxwell cards - instead of 2 inductors on the left and one on the right side, it has 5 inductors spread across the width. The M6700 GPU heatsink has a slight protrusion over the middle of the VRM area which I presume would physically interfere with the inductors.
