Thanks, good to know. I've had a few Dells in the past but they've all been bulletproof (have I now set myself up for a fail?) so I've never had to test a warranty. However I discovered today that I can order a 'non-standard' (for the region) keyboard but I have to send the order by email and have it manually processed. Why they just can't have the option on the website is beyond me but never mind, time to spec!

Sorry for the confusion, folks. I had to edit my original post. I'm quoting and re-posting the original comment so everyone sees it without reading back a few pages.

    I apologize.

I was wondering how a company like Dell did that self certification. Usually the motherboard makers (ASUS, MSI, Gigabyte, etc) come up with "tricks" like this first. Also, on a machine like this where everything is ISV certified and all it just seemed strange that Dell would go and do something like hack a port to enable sata 3.

Thanks for the correction which clarifies that it is indeed only sata 2. :) That makes much more sense now, heh.

Just placed my order for the 6700! It quoted August 14 ship date. I remember they usually beat their date, hope they do this time!

Am I the only one missing the multi touch screen option?

I was waiting for the M6700 for ordering a replacement for my old M6300 which is dying, but I guess I was looking in the wrong direction.

I was looking for a laptop to develop applications: large screen (17") with multi touch screen and quad core (I don't need this to develop but rather to test multitouch and parallel computing).

Does someone know a laptop with these options?
    Thank you.

M6700 is going to have a touchscreen option... Not sure when they'll add it.
It just launched yesterday and there are some other options that are still missing (i.e. Quadro K3000M and K4000M). A touchscreen is mentioned in the tech specs. 10-point multi-touch, if I remember properly. In Bokeh's review, he has one and says the glare has been reduced from the M6600 screen.

I will ask my contacts for more info on the touch panel. I was told the screen cover itself will have much less glare than the current one.

Regarding the Covet edition, it says anti-glare for the IPS screen, is this true? AFAIK, E2E design means super glossy screen (which I personally hate on a DNA level, lol).

So, I just tried to order an M6700 with Dell on the phone hoping that the sales folks would have the complete options available to them as opposed to the limited options on the web.
To some degree this is true, but not for the graphics cards. It's AMD or the K5000M and that's it.
Apparently Dell will have a complete offering around August 21st - I will have to wait until then as I don't need nor want the K5000M.

Also, the Dell sales guy was completely unaware of the IPS/no Optimus thing and was going to consult a tech.

So it appears Dell pushed this launch out without being able to supply all of the listed options for the M4700/M6700.

I will have to wait 4 weeks or get a M6600 instead.
