The Gorilla 2 glass is glossy. Will do an amazing job at protecting the screen from pointy clients and dust, but it is glossy.

Will be interested in seeing how many options Dell offers on the covet.

The question is, does the Covet version have the E2E by default or as an option?

It certainly looks like that's the default. It certainly fits with the highfalutin image. Don't you think?

So I just ordered the M6700 earlier today, my first Dell (having so much overseas support issues with HP, it's nice to see people from Dell responding/helping out on this forum alone, making me more than willing to switch).

Replacing my HP 8760w which was the lowest spec IPS preconfigured I could get, it hasn't held up that well. Doesn't look as nice as the M6700. Plus the IPS screen gave me constant troubles (had to actually physically send it to HP in Texas for them to calibrate it, since every single 8760w was being sent out to retailers with an uncalibrated IPS panel).

They weren't able to give me that big of a discount (about 1k off and free shipping) since the product is so new, but they did say they were trying to get any orders out before next Friday the latest, so all shipping dates are pretty well padded.

Anyway, I'm eager to compare the screens and will let everyone know!

DomM will actually place his order on 9-28-for his Covet. The hospital area , here in Sykesville,MD., has had many electrical storms and the usual power hits . The distractions may well have caused me to miss something.
I want to help a friend write a lesson plan for a fiber optic course. I would like suggestions on basic slide prep software. I have had 10 years of fiber optic engineering exp with local telco but no exp with slide prep.

Due to delay of important options will delay Covet order untill about 8-25-12. Thanks all for informative posts.

And I'm keen to learn in detail about the 8760w's DreamColor IPS screen and the machine in general from someone who has first hand experience of it and could tell me if it's recommended or not. some people have reported that this DreamColor IPS screen looks very grainy/noisy due to the aggressive AG coating which renders it unusable for color critical work. Did you experience any such issue with your screen? I have my own calibrator so I guess calibration for one would not be a problem for me. Other than the calibration issue that you mentioned, did you face any other problem with it?

Since I'll be getting one of these workstation machines for myself and nobody is sponsoring me, I've been lurking on these boards for quite a while to learn as much as I can so as to avoid any mistakes in spending and getting into trouble.

I can't afford a new one so will be looking at a refurbished 8760w most probably but I'm a bit hesitant about that approach because like you I will also be using it outside the USA, in Asia so the return or warranty will be no option. I am not sure about the exact condition on a refurbished HP machine though.

If I can't get enough recommendation, I'd like to wait and save some cash before getting myself an M6700 in a few months. It's a beautiful new toy but very expensive if you're buying one yourself.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Good thread. Starting to think I don't need another laptop really since the M6500 is still pluggin away. But man the Precision T3600 looks pretty sweet... wondering how the XEON E5-1650 stacks up against the M6700 Covet's i7-3920XM

Looking at a Precision for my DAW as a desktop replacement but as always I shop the outlet for last years models with generous coupons.

My DAW software recommends the HP Eite and Dell Precision models. Never had an issue with any Refurbed Dell. Never bought Extended Warranties. The savings alone from them could buy me a new machine. LOL

The view outside that window is beautiful. I'm sure you get plentiful inspiration from those wonderful trees there :)

I am also looking at the refurbed last year's models, HP's and Dell's. Do you have any experience with refurbed HP Elitebooks? I'm considering a 8760w with IPS screen over a Precision since Precisions with IPS screens are hard to find in their outlet. Same goes for HP but let's see I'm waiting. Will be using it in Asia so I was concerned about the condition on these refurbed machines. Don't want to get myself into trouble.
