Dunno... I was hoping to get a M4700 but am no longer sure. Need a system with at least 16GB RAM, decent storage, high res screen, good battery life. Performance is a bonus. Portability is a tough question though. I might go for something smaller in the end, like 12.5-13.3". Problem is, the best 12.5" notebook - Lenovo X230 lacks high res screen and all 13.3" systems that have good screens, lack the RAM :(
Retina MBP fits most categories but it's still a 15" machine and though slim, lacks the desired portability. I'd also rather have a trackpoint/touchstick instead of a trackpad... I guess, there's no perfect solution for my needs.:( :( :(

No workstation will ever have that; and performance is what these computers are all about.

Remember these category of laptops are for professional use and application. They are like full-size pick up trucks. They are heavy duty workhorses designed and built for those that need reliability and the ability to run the demanding programs. They are not made for the miser or faint of heart.
A selection of custom covers/colors then? As long as they reflect the business nature of this laptop I have no problem with it. And if anyone would do it, it would be Dell. Shall we write them?

On the M6600, with Optimus, you can get down to near 10 watts on a light workload, which means battery life around the 8-hour range.

Bokeh has a screen shot in his M6600 review (managed to get the power consumption below 10 watts).

(P.S. It doesn't look like you get Optimus with the HP 8770w.)

Didn't they announce some Red M6700? Or you're saying that you prefer the orange look?

Lenovo only needed to make a 1600x900 IPS screen for the X230 and that would be the home runner. I'd grab a M4700 but my work is 80% time on the go and only 20% in the office. At times, I hold my laptop in one hand while typing... The MBA 13" is perfect in terms of mobility and screen res but it lacks the RAM to cover the virtualization side.

I might still go with the X230. Its screen res is less comfortable when I need to run 2-3-way terminal sessions but should be fine for everything else. Dunno...

    What's wrong with the 'M6000'?
I would presume it be used on the M4700......

    Code:
    Model |Memory (MiB)	|Core clock (MHz)	|Memory clock (MHz)	|Stream Processors |Memory Bandwidth	|Bus type	|Bus Width	|Processing (Single Precision) |DirectX	|OpenGL
    FirePro M5950 |1024 |725 |900 |480 |57.6 GB/sec |GDDR5 |128 |696 GFLOPS |11 |4.1
    FirePro M6000 |2048 | | |640 |72 GB/sec |GDDR5 |128 |960 GFLOPS |11 |4.2
    FirePro M4000 |1024/2048	| | |512 |72 GB/sec |GDDR5 |128 |614 GFLOPS |11 |4.2
    FirePro M2000 |1024 | | |480 |25.6 GB/sec |GDDR5 |64 |480 GFLOPS |11 |4.2
Replacement for the FirePro M5950 for the M4600?

    M6000 will be in M6700. It's based on 7870m NOT on 7970m.
    7870m has +/- the same performance as M8900 (6970m)
