yes I read that too... but they also promised that they would release drivers that support TRIM for RAID on their storage adapters and that's one of the reasons I went ahead with my Sony Z (which had 4 internal 64GB SSDs in RAID0)… but I bought that way back in 2010 and to my knowledge they still havn't released those drivers - so I have little faith that they will release *STABLE* hot-plug drivers in the next 6months, which means that I may as well wait until the next gen laptops to come out with their finished Thunderbolt chips and finished drivers before I go down that route.

    just my 2pence :)

You essentially just said that a Corvette will alway win in a race against a Ford F-150. Considering the design and intent of each of these two machines that doesn't come as any surprise.

Naturally the Alienware will out game the Precision since thats what it was optimized for. The Precision is a workstation, designed with workstation tasks in mind. Its not a gaming rig.

Not the M6700, but HP has announced the Ivy Bridge version of their EliteBook mobile workstation, to be available by the end of June. Hopefully Dell follows suit before long. :)

    [Edit]

    Noticing the tech specs here:
    http://www.hp.com/united-states/campaigns/workstations/8770w_features.html#.T8yyQtVDz8k

The graphics cards are listed as NVIDIA Quadro K3000M (2GB), K4000M (4GB), and K5000M (4GB); presumably these are the new Kepler-based mobile Quadros. Probably the same choices will be available with the next Precision?

Could be, but Windows 8 isn't going to be available at retail until October-ish, I doubt they'll sit around that long. Especially since the Precision is a business-oriented notebook and the current indication is that businesses (in general) are going to be sitting on Windows 7 for a while.

Ivy Bridge products are just now launching and the mobile Precision is usually at the tail end of the refresh cycle, so I don't think there's any reason to be worried about a delay yet.

Maybe it'll be announced soon, I don't know. Recently, they have released so many Ivy bridge based products but this.

I certainly hope it comes sooner than later

Graphics specs of 8570W according to HP's webpage:

    Graphics

AMD FirePro™ M4000, with 1GB dedicated GDDR5 video memory (AMD Eyefinity Technology for advanced multi-monitor support)8
NVIDIA Quadro K1000M, with 2 GB dedicated DDR3 video memory
NVIDIA Quadro K2000M, with 2 GB dedicated DDR3 video memory

So most certainly M4700 will use slow DDR3 memory too for the Nvidia cards. :-(

As for the AMD firepro M4000 does anybody know something about this card? Is it based on 7750M or 7850M?

Yep, especially that, given that Win8 seems to turn into an utter disaster for professional/business users...

Yes, but Dell has yet to release Ivy Bridge versions of any of the other main product lines (Inspiron, XPS, Latitude, ...). That stuff will probably come before the Precision.

Today, word is out that the Ivy Bridge Inspiron R is coming, June 19. It's available with Sandy Bridge and Ivy Bridge CPUs (maybe trying to dump the last of the Sandy Bridge inventory?).

No basis in fact for this. The OS hasn't even shipped.
