Yes, I find this odd too.
If the XPS 15 will be available with a glossy screen only, ok.
But a professional workstation should have the option of a matte screen. I would accept to lost the touch-screen, if I can get a none-glare screen!

On the other hand, this would be a strong argument for the Dell and against a rMBP!

    Regards
    Sven

I will start adding in things from the thread to the main review page. The things that I talk about in the thread are observations that I see while testing and working with the machine. Once I am 100% able to repeat tests over and over, I will post to the main review window.

Have been trying to wait for other reviewers to get these, but I am going to go ahead and start posting more info today and tomorrow.

Do the matte screen protectors you can buy affect colour reproduction?

I think it has to have the gorilla glass to be structurally sound and have a lid that thin.

I used to only use matte screens until I started using the M6700 Covet. I now prefer to have that protective layer of glass over the screen. The glare on the M3800 is much lower than some other touchscreens.

I am also starting to think that the QHD+ screens on the XPS 15 and M3800 may be tuned differently. The XPS has a "TrueLife" to help tweak colors for gaming and video. The M3800 does not appear to. Anything that automatically changes the screens gamma, gamut, contrast, or brightness would be bad for color critical work.

Boot from BIOS was around 3.6 seconds. Overall boots are in the 10 second range. Wake from sleep is instant.

Yes, I fear this may be a (the) reason.

Unfortunately the "next" Gorilla-Glas (Version 4) ist not ready yet:
Next-Gen Gorilla Glass: Smartphones Could Have Antibacterial, Anti-Glare Displays

This would solve all wishes at once...

Has anybody experiences with anti-glare screen protectors? May these be a solution?

Hey bokeh, thanks so much for all your work.

Have you run any disk perf metric yet? I couldn't see any, although this thread is rather long now so may have missed them.
One of the guys in the XPS 15 Owner's lounge thread ran CrystalMark to get some numbers, and is showing lower perf than I'd expect. His XPS 15 has a Samsung SM841 SSD in it (from Device Manager) - interested to know what you have in the pre-release sample.
Apologies if you've already posted any of this.

    Thanks in advance!

Been up for a few days actually. Have been waiting. Almost ordered the XPS 15, then the ship by date pushed out past what would of originally been acceptable for me. Have something coming up where I need a replacement Laptop by December, but really was trying to let the m3800 come out first to compare. Just wish they had the configs and pricing up for the m3800 so I could see for sure what the differences come out to be.

However, the new Venue 11 pro is up on Dell's site now, althought you have to do a search for it because it is not in the menus yet.

Completely agree. I won't buy laptop with screen, reflecting my own face or lights behind me. I hope they will offer the option with anti-glare screen... Gorilla glass could be important for overall structural strength, but it's not related to very thin coating layer, that actually creates (or not) the reflection... And, yes, I found it odd that professional laptop doesn't have matte screen.
