OTOH, when comparing Quadros to their GTX counterparts where both are paired with the same CPUs, things seem to look different again....

HP ZBook 14 with Firepro M4100 -- another potential candidate against the M3800?

    edit (Re: Sketchup)
This find also seems to imply that a) Sketchup is a OpenGL based application, and b) that pro cards (FirePro/Quadro) therefore should give better results:

I think I shall add HP Omen to the list! Its i7-4710HQ CPU is more powerful than the one in my desktop PC (and than the M3800 CPU), and its GTX 960M graphic card is just as strong as my desktop's (and stronger than the GeForce GT 750M of the XPS 15).

Due to its mini Displayport it should support 4K @60Hz, however that remains to be checked. One drawback, it can't take a HDD drive.

    Hello.

I just purchased the model with 500GB SSHD, 8GB RAM, rest as normal..

Would there be much difference if I upgrade the SSHD to SSD 256GB (roughly $100 at amazon/newegg)?

Also, I'm a bit new in swapping the SSD.. is it available to swap in the first place?

    Thank you in advance.

Another option is to get a 128gb or 256gb mSATA SSD (size depending on budget). The nice thing about this is you can do both drives at once (this is how Dell sold some of the M3800's). You get the speed of the SSD, which is notably faster than even the hybrid drive, and the large data capacity of a standard drive. Note that mSATA drives do cost a bit more than the 2.5" SSDs.

Yeah I've noticed some configurations while going through the past forum pages on two drives (one HD and one SSD).

So it's possible to add a SSD on top of SSHD, right?

By any chance would you have a video or any resource on how to add a SSD on top of HD/SSHD?
I've tried looking for one, but all the videos were about swapping, not adding.. just wanted to make sure I do the right thing :)

    Thanks!

I don't think it should be hard but you might have to reinstall Windows because the computer will need to see the SSD as the C drive and the existing HDD will need to be the D drive. Through windows you can set things like your user directory to be on the D drive. I did that because my user folders tend to have a lot of data. You could of course be more disciplined that I and leave the user drives on the SSD and just have separate data folders on the HDD. I suspect that my setup uses more power since the HDD probably is accessed more since most of my data is on it vs the SSD. Thus I likely take a battery life hit. That would be an issue if I was really counting on a long battery life. Currently I get about 2-2.5 hours BUT I have the screen brightness at full most of the time, I frequently have many tabs and programs open and thus the CPU runs more than need be, and most importantly, I have the battery settings set to a maximize battery cycle life vs run time. In the BIOS I have the computer set to never charge over 85%. Since we can't use the bottom 10% of the battery (you get OS warnings at that point), I could have at least 20% more run time by using the full battery. Regardless, I suspect you might see a battery life hit with the extra drive but I don't know how much.
Here is a link to the owner's manual which includes a section on adding/removing the mSATA SSD.

Hi all. Ive been looking at this laptop as I do alot of CAD work and also Photoshop work. Hope someone can answer some questions I have:
How does the Quaddro card in this perform with autodesk products?

Ive been looking at the MSI WS60 as another option and that has a K2100m quaddro card. Is the Del available with this graphics card or does anyone know if they will be bringing one out with the K2100m card?

I prefer the look of the Dell compared to the MSI but the MSI has a better spec.... Or can someone convince me that the dell would be a better option?

    Thanks

I've had good luck so far with this notebook, but lately my screen has stopped displaying. The computer is still working, just nothing on the screen. I am assuming it is overheating, but I have no idea. I can temporarily fix it by taking off the bottom cover, unplugging the video cable, letting it sit for a few minutes, then plugging it back up and putting the cover back on. It starts back up no problem.
When I take the cover off if I touch the heat pipes they are VERY hot.
Any way to fix this? I can't be sitting with a client and the screen stop working.
