It might be possible to add WiGig support to the XPS just by grabbing the same card that they use in the Precision and installing it with the necessary software. (We'll have to wait until someone gets one or until we get pictures of the inside, to see if there is a spot for the WiGig card.)

Precision will have ISV certification and likely 3-year minimum warranty. Otherwise, they're looking pretty similar for now.

Most of the online reports say the high spec M3800 will be $1999. Which is lower than the high spec XPS. It probably will come with the 256GB SSD instead of the 512SSD if that is the case.

Actually i can see a reason for dell to just sell these at the exact same price. People who need quadro and pro support can get the precision and most other can just get the XPS. It would be strange if the Precision somehow became a better buy than the mainstream XPS 15. Kind of like when the vostro 15 became a value for money gaming machine 5 years ago with the 8600GT. After than dell got wiser and started to only offer high spec GPU and CPU on gaming or 17inch machines.

The thinkpad T440P is looking promising with IPS, 4900MQ!! and GT730M. That would be the idela machine if someone must have the CPU power.

a lot of good compact options on the market now.

I'm still curious if it is going to have room for mSATA and a 2.5" drive especially with the higher capacity drive.

Either way, I'll order it with the 1gb traditional drive, and either putting a 512 gb 2.5 inch or a 256gb mSATA.

It looks like there are supply chain issues with the 15.6" igzo panel used in the M4800. Assuming it is the same panel as this one, it might be causing the wait.

Everything so far seems to indicate that the XPS 15 and M3800 share the same chassis (the only known physical difference being GeForce vs Quadro). The XPS 15 was released on Friday and the service manuals are already available. All of the systems will have the mSATA slot but if you order the system without the 2.5" disk you get the larger battery. You have to choose whether you value more battery capacity or more storage - you can't have both.

Here is a link to the service manual and detailed spec sheet for the XPS 15:

Ngff wlan slot, the wigig card is pcie iirc.

130w adapter, dell always so generous on ac adapter. A 90w probably is enough and let people show off their small ac adapter.

Why can't they just make the mini display port thunder bolt? Blah

Base price, almost certainly no lower for same specs on the Precision.

Discounting, especially through corporate accounts and once they show up refurb on the outlet, may well favor the Precision.

Also, precision is likely to be 3 years base warranty vs. 1 year on the XPS, which is a $249 add-on to make them match.

I am waiting for the pricing on the Precision before getting one or the other.

XPS does, but the battery capacity is less. XPS with large SSD is mSATA-only and has 91WH battery instead of 61.

I'm undecided, assuming tradeoff is the the same on the Precision.

Not a big fan of the 130W either, but history just screams throttling, so maybe that was the idea.

Over here the Business site heavily overprices. Spec for spec it can start at $1000 in price difference vs the Home site, for the top configuration. The difference between the mid and top config will also be much bigger vs the Home site, in the order of $500.

And some units start with 3 years but some don't.

You guys get a lot more flexibility in pricing and warranty period.
