I'm willing to pay. Here's the specs I need:

    1) 12.5-13" IPS ultra-high res screen (Google Chromebook, rMBP 13)
    2) Quad core CPU (hp 2560p/2570p, some VAIO's, etc)
    3) Iris Pro 5200 (should appear in rMBP in a few weeks)
    4) 2 HDD/SSD slots, can be M2, msata, 2.5" (hp 2560/70p some Vaio's)
    5) 16GB RAM (a gazillion of laptops)
    6) Not a macbook

Now show me a single laptop (don't care about the price) which is supposed to have all of these (no macbooks please) and I'll be happy to pay whatever price they are asking.

Whatever price you pay, make sure to add a few grand to pay for laser eye surgery when you eventually go blind with such a uselessly tiny display.

That is of no concern to me, I know how to recover my eyes completely (relaxation, meditation, etc). I've been in IT for over 18 years now and still have a perfect eye sight, so don't worry about that. Also, I normally adjust font and icon size similar to rMBP's double scaling, so that I can benefit from high res and still have a readable screen. But I absolutely need a high res screen on the go for all my virtualization and RDP sessions. 1600-1800P would be perfect.

That would put you in the boutique territory. A very small market.

As you know, I'm almost positive that that does not exist.

    Your closest bets are:

    Samsung ATIV Q
Ultra High res, 13.3" screen, but only 4GB of RAM, dual-core, and HD4400.

    Samsung ATIV Book 9 Plus
Ultra High res, 13.3, but only 4GB of RAM, dual-core, and HD4400

    Dell Precision M3800:
Ultra High res, Quadro k1100M->better than the HD5200 you're asking for, but 15" (right?).

Pretty lame, but that's it as far as I know. The Chromebook Pixel and the Kirabook both did very poorly in sales I'm feeling, so this whole extreme dpi small-screen-thing looks like it'll stay niche for a little while. Just go with the m3800, I mean it sounds like the ticket.

I think that was the point he was trying to make.

I think you don't get the "pay whatever" idea, ofc it does not exist in the market. Can you buy super computer or special machinery/car online or in best buy? No.

    exactly

True, but I never buy my laptops in bestbuy. I normally go with the top business class or uber-power gaming rigs. In this case, mobility is also a requirement. The closest to what I need/want in 2012 was the rMBP 13 but as an apple product it had quite a few restrictions. I'd say, my elitebook is pretty darn close to the perfection except for the screen res. But you are right, maybe if I manage to mod/fit the chromebook screen into my machine - that would be it! Will have to try.

Well, at any price, you could probably find some company to custom design a motherboard, have it made, ditto for the case, display, keyboard, etc.
