Dell Precision M3800 - 2013!

    Until the main logic board can shrink by half, you aren't going to get the kind of configurability that you have in the m4700 in something the size of a macbook pro. There just isn't space.At this point, the motherboards in these computers are pretty much down to a single board (maybe a couple) with components on both sides. Without changes in cooling, they aren't going to get much thinner.

    The next step is changing the footprint of the board so that there is more room for memory modules, harddrives, and then fight with the battery team to not have that space taken up by more battery.

    Agreed, we need some big changes to happen in batteries specifically. BAE is doing research in structural batteries for military and Let Mans race cars.

    Since these shells are just skins protecting the internal components, it would be great to see some structural batteries to become the new case, making things thinner overall (battery replacement complaints aside if course)

    Why disgruntled? I'm looking for a new power laptop that is lightish... hoping 3800 fits the bill.

    There would be none. Something need to be sacrificed. You cant have everything. Atleast, not yet. :)

    The thing is if you can get x power in x space, you can get 2x power in 2x space. The smaller will always be slower than a bigger if the power/size ratio is kept. If you can give up space you will get more power.
