If the new XPS15 had that screen and those specs, and sells for less, I'll buy it as an XPS instead.

    *shrug*

What is disappointing is that Intel didn't choose to adopt DDR4 with Haswell. 16gb modules are already common in the server space and quite inexpensive, as such things go; they're just waiting on DDR4 in the desktop/laptop space.

Exactly. Some of my users absolutely have to have 32gb, and will stick with the W (or the M4x00) or a desktop. Others, right now, are clamoring for Macbook Pros. Many of those would be happy with this guy, or a Lenovo equivalent if they come out with one

Latitude is the older line, so it's rather fairer to say that the original Inspirons were based on the Latitudes of the day (you could actually cross-flash the BIOS on some models of the Inspiron 4xxx series to enable the docking port and Latitude C-series branding)

Indeed. If it has DIMMs at all, it will be better than the present rMBP.

Not that it should be any surprise, but my rep has already said that there is a separate M4700-successor "coming soon;" he really wants us to start buying those rather than Lenovo W5xx :) Also that it will have the same screen option as the M3800 (I think that's already been confirmed up thread.)

He has not confirmed the "M4800" name, but I'd be amazed if it was called anything else.

All my rep will say is "this fall." Probably Oct/Nov, based on the Intel chip schedule.

Not quite perfect for that, but the Vaio Z is not too far off! Maybe Sony will do a Haswell successor, although they have not announced one.

I have a Z, disappointed by Sony lack of replacement for the Z. I was getting used to the idea of getting a MBPr to run Windows (with the added benefit os 16x10 screen). But the M3800 fits the bill. I had many Latitude that were clones of the Precisions and enjoy the next day onsite service for the few cases when I needed it. I can't wait to configure a M3800, or a M4800 because my main attraction is the screen. I love those high DPI screens. If the M3800 has some restrictions I can't live with I could do with the 4800. I just don't get that it took so long for Windows OEM to catch up on the MBPr on the screen resolution. I still hate 16x9, but I can live with a 3200x1800 screen. It will be the next MBPr or the M3800, whatever comes first.

The 2013 Haswell retina MBP has been out for a bit now, unlikely to get another one until next year with the Broadwell die-shrink.

Wish they made these things with more useful modular GPUs; processor-wise, I'd still be happy with the i7-2720qm in my (now gifted to a relative) E6420, and maximum memory hasn't increased until you go up to the M4x00 tanks. Being on a once-a-year upgrade cycle for the whole system rather than just a $200 video board (as in my desktop) gets expensive.

Source? There are only new Mac Book Air's with Haswell, and only rumors about Haswell refresh of Mac Book Pro line...

Also, rumors about rMBP says that dGPU could be dropped for Intel Iris Pro.

There was a small CPU boost and price reduction for the 15" rMBP early in 2013, but no Haswell yet.

Interesting. I stand corrected; I assumed the new 2013 MBP models were the Haswell refresh, as they were for the airs. I don't follow Apple as well as I do the PC space, although that may change if my company starts buying them.

Anyone has any updates on its release date?

And also I hope you guys can just keep this thread about M3800 and not about MBP.

It is a bit difficult not to have some mention of the MBPr 15" when discussing the M3800. The Dell announcement appears to many as an answer to the Apple model. I have seen many diehard Windows users switching to that MBPr either using bootcamp or VM and be happy about it. I am also waiting for more details on the M3800, including more technical info. The one thing I already don't like about the M3800 is the keyboard. I have had to use the Vaio Z slightly compromised keyboard with no dedicated PgUp/PgDown for few years now and am dismayed that the M3800, despite its large keyboard space is also giving up on that, almost as bad as having an Apple keyboard to run Windows. This is an area where Dell could have done better w/o cloning the MBPr design. I would probably prefer a M4800 on a diet (size-wise) but early info seems to suggest that the M4800 will have the same casing as the M4700. I hope in less than 2 weeks we'll know more.

Hi, I was wondering if the 3200x1800 resolution has any disadvantages?

I heard that sometimes scaling issues can occur with high resolutions. As I am a Linux user I would like to know how well supported these high resolutions are in Linux?

No idea, but there will be nothing preventing you from running the display at other resolutions, running it at 1600x900 will prevent any pixel interpolation and 1920x1080 shouldn't look too bad either.
