    The M.2 spec states that there has to be an offset and standoff nut that an M.2 device is screwed into. I don't think the 'sidedness' of an M.2 drive would affect whether or not it is compatible with the 7X40, or any M.2 slot, for that matter.

    The only factors are the M/B-keying of the slot and drive (which in turn are determined by the signal provided to the slot in question: SATA or PCIe/NVMe), and the physical length of the PCB (M.2 2230, 2240, 2280, etc).

    Fair point; I believe said 'different host-side connectors' refer to this image below, from this PDF:

    From what I recall, the Precisions have ~4mm connectors, so there should be no issue in inserting the Sabrent 4TB drives.

    Hello All,
    Could someone please tell me about the speaker quality and the touchpad of the Dell 7740? I'm going to place my order soon. I'm choosing Xeon with Linux. Can I install Windows 10 Pro normal version on Xeon or it has to be Windows 10 Pro for Workstation?

    The Windows 10 Pro for Workstations requirement is an OEM/licensing requirement only (a "cash grab", actually). Regular Windows 10 Pro will work fine on a mobile Xeon.

    I have never owned a Dell Precision 7000 series before. I used to have Dell M6700/M6800. My configuration below for Dell 7740 costs $1900 USD. Is it a good buy?

    Seems reasonable. I got my 7740 for $2300 + tax. It was spec'd with xeon 2286, 4k display, rtx 4000, 2 x 1 tb nvme, and 32gb ecc ram.
