That sounds like you should get Dell support involved. Might need some hardware replacements.

I noticed that the cooling fan vents seem to be dented on my 7740. I certainly haven't bashed them, so must have been done in the factory. I can't imagine it will cause any issues, but I'm curious... Has anyone else seen anything like this?

I have 2666mhz ram (original 2x8 and added 2x16). iIRC it was reading 2666 initially.

It only reads it as 2400 now with the 4 sticks.

How/can I set the frequency? Thanks

Please check the CAS latency (CL) of the original modules and the modules that you added. If it is not the same then you will get a lower running frequency. You can check this using CPU-Z on the SPD tab. Look at the column with frequency 1333 MHz.

The new one is 18-18-18-43, the old one is not written (I need to install my new GPU this evening so I can't check the windows info) but it is Samsung M471A1K43DB1-CTD 8 GB and I think CL19

Would 18 vs 19 lower it?

Yes. The system must have all modules operate with the same timings. It is important when mis-matching modules that they have the same speed and CL. If they don't "agree" on CL at the highest speed then it will look at lower speeds until it finds one that they match on. If there are no speeds that they match on then the system will not POST.

    Ok, the system posts.

    What's your take between running 48MB at 2400 or 32MB at 2666?

I would go for capacity, I really doubt that the speed difference will make a noticeable difference for regular tasks.

Does anybody know if double-sided m.2 drives can be installed in the 7740? More specifically, the Sabrent 4TB and 8TB drives?
