This must have been fixed. I have had no problem running the CPU in my 5510 at full speed while on battery. However, since Turbo Boost is relatively power inefficient I have disabled it my setting the Maximum CPU state while on battery to 99%.

    Hey guys,

Any opinion on which graphics card is the better out of the W5170M and the M1000M? Cant find a lot of benchmarks for the W5170M - would mainly be using the machine for 3D modeling using Blender and some gaming as well in my spare time. I can score the AMD chip for 200 pounds less but I don't intend on replacing this machine for about 2-4 years so ultimately I want the better performing chip. Also I've heard the AMD chip can cause some troubles due to driver issues - has that all been ironed out?

    Cheers,

    Tyler

When I had a look into the M7510, the W5170 was closer in gaming performance to the M2000M, and was the better choice purely on that.

OTOH, that may have just been based on the passmark people's numbers:
    http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu.php?gpu=Quadro+M1000M
    http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu.php?gpu=Firepro+W5170M&id=3470

I also haven't seen any official TDP for the W5170 but if I had to guess it's the same 55W as the M2000M, so it might hurt battery life a little.

Also, are you sure you're on the right thread? I haven't seen any sign of a W5170M on the M5510 -- it IS one of the three options on the M7510...

The latest BIOS 1.2.13 did not fixed the flickering issue. I am still facing this issue with the latest BIOS 1.2.13

After upgrading to BIOS 1.2.13, it appears I am now having an issue with the battery not charging. For those that have upgraded to 1.2.13, do you have this issue as well?
