This thing can now be configured with iGPU only, quadcore CPU and FHD display. With the 84 Wh battery this thing should be a beast for developers who don't need a dedicated GPU. The cooling system on this one is superior to all other models with equal footprint.

But why is the keyboard on the cheaper Latitude models so much better than the keyboard on this one?

It will be worthwhile someone looking inside one with the iGPU to make sure it still has two fans.

Slim notebook = limited travel keyboard and you don't want the keys leaving marks on the screen when you close the computer.

As John said, part of it will be the slim design.

Another aspect is that this evolved out of the XPS line and not from the Latitudes (or traditional Precision models); it was even clearer with the M3800 where you could literally swap every single part between that and the XPS 15 9530 two -- not sure if that's still the case with the 9550, but they're still very closely related machines.

The last aspect -- and this one is purely my own supposition -- is that they're trying to make the machine more attractive to people who'd be looking at a Mac, design-wise -- hence the gigantic clickpad rather than the traditional business-style touchpad + pointing stick. There's literally no technical reason not to have the directional keys like the Latitudes -- slightly offset down, and with the "shoulder" PgUp/PgDn, and my guess is that the original decision not to do that on the XPS line was specifically to copy Apple.

Hey there, Im having some trouble with my USB-C port using a USB-C hub. I have the latest BIOS and drivers EXCEPT that the Intel(R) USB 3.1 eXtensible Host Controller and Hub Driver wont install. As soon as I run the setup a window with some install parameters show up and when I press OK nothing more happens.
    Anyone else had this problem?

Haven't checked the thread in a while, but how so? Last I checked, Android Pay is difficult or impossible to get working on a rooted device, but outside of that, I haven't seen any obstacles provided you have an unlocked bootloader. Without an unlocked bootloader though, your options are getting very limited. AFAIK the US carrier versions of the Galaxy S7 which have locked bootloaders have yet to even achieve root, let alone install custom ROMs. While I resent Samsung allowing the carriers to lock us out of our own devices, it is really a testament to just how good Android security has gotten despite what you'll read in the headlines... You literally have people intentionally installing malicious software on a phone and they still can't get root.

As far as the Nexus goes, I did a bit of research before buying, and I found a few cases where people asked Google Support if rooting and/or installing custom ROMs would void the warranty, and the answer was no, although obviously it's not something they condone. And the word on the street seems to be that getting warranty service for hardware issues is not a problem even if you've modified the OS. I have recently heard of a bad experience with Huawei support. I would always try to go through Google for support, even if they try to send you to Huawei, be persistent...

I'm sure that was a factor in the design although it's a bit silly of Dell to not include the small PgUp/PgDn above the left and right cursor keys as on the Latitude keyboard as that would make an improvement on the alternative. There must be a substantial market for a quality large screened reasonably light notebook within companies who buy Dell as the older, more senior people appreciate having a larger screen but don't want to lug around a big notebook.

Personally I prefer a bigger touchpad conpared to the Latitude's smaller pad with two rows of buttons and the pointing stick.

Another thought on the iGPU version of the 5510. What PSU does it ship with? It doesn't need 130W PSU. 65W would be plenty if it is accepted that the battery charge rate may be reduced when the CPU is heavily loaded. The smaller PSU that will bring down the travel weight / bulk.

At least as order-able through the premier page I have access to, the iGPU-only configurations still ship with the 130W adapters.

    I've never seen Dell ship a system with a non-derated 45W CPU with a 65W adapter. I've also never seen a 65W or 90W 4.5mm adapter -- just the 45W from the XPS 13 and the 130W on the XPS 15/M3800/M5510.

They ship a couple of different adapters with the Venue Pro dock. Not sure of the wattage, but I want to say 65W. I know I have seen a 90W. Will try to find them at work and post the part numbers.
