I would suggest buying new x bracket regardless of what video card you already have as reusing the x bracket is not something I would do as the old one is hard to take off and the sticky tape behind it gets pretty bad. Also I sort of bent my 3000m xbrace trying to take it out.

Do you have any issue with HDMI / DP (M6600 with 7970m)?
Are there any problems with audio / video via these ports?

Nope. Everything works perfectly. HDMI audio and everything. Brightness control is also ok.

does anyone know what the part number for the second hard drive caddy is? I need to acquire one as I am using the bay for my data drive (hdd), and I have just temporarily fitted it without the bracket.

Also, I have been experiencing intermittent freezes on the machine where it is totally unresponsive except the mouse still moves. I have the OS installed on a muskin 240 msata ssd. I have the latest bios, chipset, and video drivers (m3000).

I'm doing a hard drive swap this evening so I'll get it for you (if no one else posts it before then).

I may be misunderstanding the part you are looking for but my m6600's included the bracket for the second drive. I just need the 4 standard sized 2.5" screws to attach the drive to the bracket.

Regarding the lockup of the machine I was seeing very similar symptoms (I have the 3000m also) and had installed aftermarket SSD's & RAM and was chasing the issue for a while. Here is my story & what fixed it for me.

Is Optimus then usable once the Gtx 680m is installed?
And would Enduro be usable should I choose a HD 7970m?
