Could you tell some more and a review of it?

    For instance answer questions like:
    * Is it running cooler and without a fan?
    * How is switching between the environments? Can you have both running at the same time?
    * Does it drain battery when the LatON is in standby and the computer is "Off"?
    * How fast is the CPU in terms om browser performance?
    * What kind of e-mail possibilities are there? IMAP/SMTP/Exchange? (only Exchange 2003 and not 2007 as I understand it?)
    * How long battery time do you get?
    * Have you tried it with WWAN/Mobile Broadband?

Anyone put an Intel x18 on the E4200?
Am really tempted now that prices have come down.

If so, does it make a difference compatibility wise to use the G1 or G2?
Is G2 compatible with my seven month old E4200? (and it's SATA)

The E4200 does not use a regular 1,8" drive. It uses a drive without casing. Search this forum for details and images.

I don't think you will be able to just install a X18-drive without some modifications.

This http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1394351 was the best, and most informative due to it's pictures, I could find.

But the case is not settled. I have not found yet a successful installation of a non-Dell drive in a E4200.

I asked there about trying an Intel X18... and there wasn't any response.

Would REALLY like to know now that prices have come down.

    thx

    some answers:
    * after the BIOS update A11 the fan is much beter on Windows, but when on Latitude ON I never hear the fan.
    * switching goes very smooth, they have there own hardware button, so windows hibernates nicely and you continue in Latitude ON. One remark, sometimes when I think both or off, the battery still drains. So when I got back at my laptop the battery led is blinking (~ empty). I think it's Latitude ON that stays in standby.
    * yes, you can keep LatitudeON in standby or shutdown.
    * you'll notice that LatitudeON is slower, the applications (browser, email, settings) open slower. But once there started it is more than ok for the job, and with long battery life.
    * normally almost everything is supported, I still have to setup an exchange account.
    * I didn't time the battery time yet, but with my 6 cell I manage more than 8 hours I think.
    * I still have to try the broadband, but it's also supported by LatitudeON

more questions? if you want something tested? shoot...

I just performed a inplace upgrade on my E4200 from Vista Ultimate to Windows 7 Ultimate, and I installed all drivers that Dell provided for Win7, except for the chipset (it said it's not supported).

Inside device manager there is only one device that does not work properly -- the "Contacted Smartcard". Appreantly Dell website does not have driver for this. Can anyone please kindly give me a hint about how to fix this problem?

Thanks for the update. I have one quite relevant question, in what aspects do you find the additional value of the LatitudeON module compared to switching your laptop on from standyby (which takes about 3 seconds). The negative aspect of standy is the mild battery draining (10-20% on a whole day).

Try the security package, this package includes drivers for the smartcard reader and the fingerprint reader.

    Cheers.

    Successor?
Any news about a successor for the E4200? I noticed that the building quality of the notebook is quite degenerate compared to my old' D430. The palmrest has marks (after 3 months of intensive use). The frame around the screen is just horrible, it's kinda weak and flexible. I know that they had to make consessions to reduce the weight (which is a big plus compared to the D430).
