Yes. Dell CP would give on-screen notification of ALS status and screen brightness, but does not fix the problem. And if you install Dells' ALS software, you may find that you cannot adjust brightness at all whether ALS is on or off.

Hi I am new to this forum...just received my E4200 (purchased from outlet store).

But my package did not come with the cable used to connect the external DVD drive and laptop. I put the drive into the bay, then cannot connect it to the computer...I suppose it is some eSATA cable, which item in the order list should be it?

My laptop has some serous problems...upon first use, one key-cap broke and came off the keyboard...!!! And the touch pad is not aligned well (it's tilted..). Really hard to believe the build quality.

Now I am seriously thinking if I should return it, or repair. :( I do like the little laptop, why can't they build it more solid? ----I have 3 other Latitude D series computers, all in good shape.

BTW, my system only came with 1GB memory in total (no extra surprise)

I guess I should choose return. I will hold the little thing for a few more days to see how I feel about this particular model. ( even if I return this one, I may still purchase another E4200.)

I saw that you were looking for 4-cell battery, they are available on ebay now. Before placing my order, I only saw 6-cells on ebay. (Why do you want 4cell battery? I did get the machine with 4cell, now I think 6cell should be better. Maybe just "the other option is always better"):p

I kinda want to keep this one because it is cheaper compared to the current inventory.
and it is with 4 cell battery.(most systems in outlet have 6cells).

For the keyboard, we figured out it is fairly easy to replace the key cap, so I can ask Dell to send me a new keyboard, and I get this V key cap from that one, put on my machine. Don't need to replace the whole keyboard.

I found another picture on the forum, the touch pad alignment is exactly like my system, is it just normal? (see the horizontal space between touch pad and the "space" key, the space is not uniform width..like the right side has been pushed down a little bit).

call customer care department asap. if you are within the 21-day period they will give you two options (depending on who you get): a partial credit for you to keep the laptop (you can negotiate this if they give a low amount) or they will send you a replacement (just be patient if you go through this route).

the key is to talk to them nicely...
