Actually those edges are not a problem at all. I thought it was ugly at first but since I got the laptop, 1) it gives something to hold onto when opening the lid 2) you barely notice it once you actually own the laptop.

I don't mind the "wings" either. I also find them useful for opening the laptop. I also just installed Vista over XP. I am loving Vista on this computer it is a lot nicer than on my TZ90. I had some issues with the fingerprint reader and TPM on XP and don't have those issues on vista.

One note on the performance figures.
Hibernate/Resume from hibernate saves/loads the RAM memory to/from the hard drive.
So if you have a lot of RAM there is a lot to save. The Sony needs to save 512MB, the Dell 2GB.
This does not explain the big difference but it gives some background explanation at least.

The Dell should be faster in hibernate/resume, is it the going from Desktop view to the start of "saving hibernate" that takes time (the waiting for the progress bar)?

22 second boot time for XP is very fast!

I have a question regarding the new power supply for the E4200.

Seems a lot of people are very positive to it, I have not yet found a good picture of how it compares in size. Especially how thick it is.

There is some good pictures from Colin DiPonio but they are only from above and it is hard to understand the size of it.

    Hi Marcel,

Thank you, you are right, I ordered WWAN, if this is the reason, I will have to avoid WWAN config and get clean cut screen edges.

    Regards,
    Mike

EDIT: I think this is wrong. I just unboxed a non-WWAN E4200 .... it has "wings"

    ----

My update... I've ordered my machine (with backlit keyboard) .... although am waiting for dell.com.au to update me with a estimated date (it's been a week)
    Not looking good :-(

I have another one of these just arrived for another user. I'm still quite impressed by it's weight (or lack of) .... although I couldn't afford to spend that much of "my own" money on one.

    Hallo!

    First post here!

    I just ordered Dell Latitude E4200 from italian web-site. It's with 3Gb RAM, 64Gb SSD, 5300 wifi.
I'm a bit disappointed, however, because there was not the option for backlit keyboard: the commercial agent told me that it will be available only next here in Italy.
    So, my question:

do you think will be possible to buy the keybord somewhere and replace it in the future? A guy in this forum says it's not...

Other question: I also ordered the 5300 wifi card. Is this the reason for the "wings"? It's not clear up to now..
