Thanks. Just to be sure, I am looking to replace the existing Samsung thin uSATA SSD in the E4200. You are saying I cannot simply swap it out with the Renice X3 model, but with the adapter, it will then be a full replacement of the OEM drive?

I have successfully upgraded to an Intel 320 Series 300GB 1.8in drive in my e4200. The drive can utilise the lower edge mounting pin and screw hole. It is a perfect fit for the available area so its squeezed into place. This is what everyone wants to see right?

This seems great! Unfortunately, the Intel 320 is a bit pricey for me.

It's very expensive compared to the cost of a replacement e4200 these days but I have 2 more years warranty on mine so I could justify it

@Kenneth, another option to get a 1.8" drive is to use a microsata-to-mSATA adapter + mSATA SSD. The adapter is available now from ebay vendor microsata cables for US$23 mSATA to Micro SATA Adapter 794504826029 | eBay . The adapter has plenty of empy space on the sides so could drill the right mounting holes.

Means can then use the mSATA SSD and later use it in an ultrabook or mSATA equipped notebook like a Lenovo X220/X230.

Thanks for the suggestion. So many options, makes my head hurt. Anyway, okay, I've decided to give this a try. I plan to wait on the Mushkin Enhanced Atlas 120GB, which is currently out of stock, but will be in stock soon (I hope).

I noticed that there are notches cut into the adapter, possibly exactly where the screws go. However, if that is the case, I could probably epoxy bits of plastic to extend into the notch, and put the screw holes there. Or, maybe I can just use some double-stick foam tape and skip the screws.

I'll report back, will be 2-3 weeks though, since I have some deadlines coming up.

    Hi there,
a few days I am the owner E4200 (1.6 GHz, 128GB SSD, BIOS A22). I have the impression that laptop to heat up. No CPU load is about 50 degrees, but once you do something it jumps up to 60-65 degrees. Heavily also heats up the bottom cover and working with a laptop on your lap is not possible.
This is the normal temperature? Can disassemble the laptop then re-paste and clean the cooling system.

    Hey Guys,

I have a technical question about dell Latitude e4200.

My e4200 doesnt have ssd(micro) in it , ssd slot is empty. I can only use ubuntu live usb right now. I wanna buy KINGSTON mS200 ssd which is 50mm SATA Mini PCIe . So my question is if I buy this mini PCIe ssd card can I use it on my latitude e4200. I dont know if e4200 has a msata slot but as I can see I didnt saw any. But there is Wvan card(ericsson) you know for mobile broadband. So Im planing to remove it and then use that slot for msata ssd . Im not sure can I boot my computer like that , but anyway if you experts have any idea please inform me .

    http://www.kingston.com/datasheets/sms200s3_en.pdf

    Thanks
