I successfully upgraded my 64GB mobility SSD to a twice as fast 128GB with TRIM support. Presently there are several SSDs on eBay that fits the E4200. Search for a slim (=no casing) version 1.8" SSD with uSATA/microSATA connector.

Here's the link to the drive I bought:
Samsung SSD Thin 128GB uSATA MLC Solid State Drive TRIM - eBay (item 170552178923 end time Oct-23-10 19:00:17 PDT)

The drive is a Samsung 128GB SSD 1.8" on uSata Interface.
    Model: Thin 128GB uSATA MLC
    SSD P/N: MMCRE28GTDXP-MVB (D1)
    Date of production: 2009.11.21
    Firmware: VBM24D1Q

can someone give me some specific feedback on the real time performance of this laptop with intensive multitasking?

I often have open a bunch of tabs on firefox, excel, word, and watching some tv streaming.

Also my main concern is with real time audio recording, will this CPU handle that? I use Sonar and Cubase with 10/15 simultaneous tracks in playback and a few plug-ins.

I have the E4200 and for browsing and work with MS Office there is no problem. Sometimes I hit the max CPU but that is mostly because of Flash-Ad's.
Video depends on what type of video. Youtube 1080p is not playable. 720p often works.
I have 3GB RAM which helps a lot.

Regarding your sound editing requirements I would check for other persons using that specific software on similar hardware as E4200. There must be other persons that use it but does not have a E4200 but with a computer with similar or same CPU?

The E4200 is no speed monster CPU-wise. The SSD (I have the "Fast" option) and lot of ram helps it a lot though.

Ehm, 1080P video is no problem. Either my videocard decodes it (DXVA) or my CPU does it with raw power I do have the U9600 (1.6Ghz). Youtube@1080p is also no problem.

You are right, sorry for my confusing post.

I tried 1080p now on Youtube and it works ok.
Some frames dropped with my 1.4GHz so it does not work flawlessly. And with a higher bit rate I would guess more frames gets dropped so 1080p could be a problem depending on how you define 1080p...

Ok, a huge bump, but because of company restrictions we can only buy Dell laptops. The downside of the whole thing is of course that Dell hasn't released a successor for it's E4200.....Any one that caught some rumors somewhere?

I'm wondering if anyone has this P/N MMCRE28GTDXP-MVBD7 128gb SSD for their laptop? From what I've read it was used in Dell laptops. I've read about some kind of restriction it has that will not allow a complete secure erase if not used in a Dell computer. If anyone has any input I'd appreciate it :)

I have been quietly wondering what is going on with this laptop. There is no direct replacement, and now the XX20 E series with Sandy Bridge is due around Second Quarter this year (that's what our Dell Rep mentioned anyway). Dell usually only keeps one model back. So, Is the E4200 toast this year? And with it the Latitude 12 inch line? Perhaps that was the intent of the 13 inch line all along.

I would have hated to see a 16:9 12 inch ultra-portable anyway LOL, even though I think 16:9 suits the E4310.

You are not the only one wondering this. I want a 12" notebook, simply from a portability point of view. But Dell is not upgrading is E4200 line and customer support is very quiet on this one.
