I want to buy a second hand with a HD display. But.... if i do this, i will need to upgrade the screen to the WXGA++ (1600x900) version myself, otherwise it's a no go.
The new price is a bit too much for me now...

    So my questions:
    1. What screen does Dell use?
    2. Do I need exactly the same sceen?
    3. Can i just replace the screen and it will work?

    Thanks!

Do you see a significant availability of this relatively recent notebook in the second hand market of your area?
This would surprise me given the business target.

I have just installed f.lux, and I have to say, the concept is genius. It doesn't "dim" the screen, so much as warm the colours at nighttime. The way a red light in the bathroom is better than a white one in the middle of the night. It's up and running and I don't think I'll be uninstalling it anytime soon...

I've noticed that one of the things driving the fan is that sometimes the Interrupts process (as reported by Process Explorer) gets pinned to ~%18 CPU usage and will not drop until I reboot. I see this most often when using Skype, so networking and audio are both involved. I've tried LatencyMon but I'm not sure how to interpret the results.

Has anyone else seen this, or have any idea how to fix it?

Ugh really, this system too has DPC Latency issues? I thought Dell got past that since the infamous Studio XPS machines.

I really don't have any info as I haven't had a system affected. I googled LatencyMon and it's different from the tool all the SXPS guys were running. Try running this one: DPC Latency Checker

It's what those guys used and the results seem easier to interpret compared to LatencyMon.

I don't even care about DPC latency, just the CPU load which causes increased fan usage and battery drain. The typical advice is to run LatencyMon or xperf and track down which driver/hardware is causing it, and update that driver. So far it seems to be either NDIS (network) or ACPI. I have the most recent drivers installed for everything, so if anyone else had solved this, I was hoping to find out the secret.

I'm not sure if I should complain about Dell's implementation of the power management on the 6430U or I should make my compliments to Acer for the 3810T.
I've set both systems to run at 800mhz (the acer is dual core but not HT) and the acer, even with older and less integrated hardware, after more than 2 years of use and abuse is way more silent than the Dell!
Finger crossed for bios A05 when it becomes available.

Is the 6430u able to drive 2560x resolutions via built-in HDMI? I'm assuming it can definitely do it through the dock DisplayPort connector?

To which dock are you referring?
Please note that there it is no dock connection in the notebook.
You can (or will be able to) get a wireless-dock enabled notebook and related docking station but I don't know if anyone has seen this live and how good the performances will actually be.

Yes indeed I would guess it would have to be this one Press Releases | Dell

It lists DisplayPort as a feature, so I assume it would work out. But you're right, I'm not finding any real world reviews for it yet.
