Does anyone happen to know where I can get a guide (with pictures), for upgrading/replacing the memory on this laptop? The module access on the back is no problem but I don't want to damage the laptop tearing the front off to get at the other SO-DIMM slot.

    Thanks :)

Yet again, dell service manual; Simply go to their website, click on support, select the D830, click service manual and off you go!

bofil: Check out Sirius' excellent guide to replacing and upgrading the memory in the D630. Everything should pretty much be identical to the 830.

I have the d830 for about two weeks now. I have the 15.4 wuxga display but in it's too small. I'm just going to type quick and not really format my thoughts here cause it's 12:20 and I've been running around all day. Overall, this is a solid machine. However, the built in Intel x3100 video card isn't so great. It lacks clarity and color. The display is nice though, and you can tell the native resolution is smooth. I know that doesn't make sense...but essentially it's easier on the eyes. The problem is that fonts are way to small and when you adjust them up to 120dpi you get all kinds of display issues happenning. I've had some issues with waking the machine from hibernate as well. Sometimes it won't come back online and then need to do a complete reboot. The display has gone completely blank a few times for no apparent reason. Again, overall this machine is solid but the high resolution that I thought would be a plus actually turned out to be anegative cause it's too small and when you try to change the resolution, everything looks blurry. They should really make a system that you can change the native resolutions on these displays easily and quickly. If someone comes up with that technology they can probably make a good penny. Speaking of penny, that's my two cents. I'm going to reorder with the wsxga, as i've read other posts that say the resolution is more workable.

Why do you blame the lack of clarity and color on the x3100, and not the display?

Well just got mine, quite satisfied... About the WUXGA screen, too small? It's perfect! Docking station, 2nd battery all working. Too bad the model didn't come with a fingerprint reader while I was under the impression that it would... Well too bad... Now first i'll go and kick Vista off my PC!

Rik: You have to specifically request for the fingerprint reader in your configuration. As you can see from the pictures, it effectively reduces the buttons of the trackpad to about a third, with the scanner sitting neatly in the middle. Personally, I wished the scanner were off the trackpad and somewhere on the wrist rest area, like in the Thinkpads and various HP laptops. But I guess that's one of the sacrifices you make with purchase a CTO from an assembly-line mass manufacturer such as Dell - the chassis' all have to be the same to reduce variable overhead costs. Don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking them. But it would've been nice to have less of a "generic, OEM" feel from the Latitude line of casings.

Yeah, that is true. I found the buttons on the demo model too small as well. Pity Dell does that like this.
