    As for the screen, here's a pic I took using the NBR page. Take note of the side bar on the left. Can you live with a font that small?

    Woo got my D830 today! Im amazed at how cool it runs...it has been on for 8+ hours now and the cpu is only at 34 degrees celsius, while the video card (nvs 140m) is at 45.

    Hey gang,
    I'm about to buy a D830. I found out from the sales rep that Vista Business shipped with this is 32bit. I know there are 64bit versions for sale but not on the Latitudes. Not being an expert, should this matter? Will I have to upgrade to 64 in a few years?
    Thanks

    You only need 64bit OS if you want to use more than 3GB RAM.

    That's strange... there was definitely an option for 64bit XP and Vista when I bought my D830... maybe I'm just hallucinating. But yeah, if you want to make use of more RAM you will have to upgrade. Furthermore I'm sure there will be more and more programs down the line that are optimized for 64bit OS's so it'll be good to have anyways.

    EDIT: @ freefishuser, why don't you just decrease the resolution? Yeah it might get a bit blurry, but at least you can read the text...

    Wolf: I usually sit about a foot and a half away from my screen (come to think of it, don't we all? It is, after all, a laptop...) and the fonts are tiny... but still readable. It only gets to me when I haven't slept for two days and my vision starts hazing. :p

    And... I'm too proud to either increase my DPI or reduce my resolution. Hahaha!!! :p

    @speedy21589

    Yeah it runs really cool, much cooler than my e1505/6400 I had previously. And I really have to say, in my opinion a 1920x1200 screen is awesome on a 15.4 inch laptop. I had my D830 standing next to my (well I allready sold it, but I was reinstalling it :D) 6400 and I actually found the 1280x800 screen crude. Just like I found 320x240 crude when 640x480 was becoming hip (yeah, I've been using computers for quite a while now), and how 640x480 is crude compared to 1288x800, and I'm not talking about resampling on a LCD display here ;).

    I actually got I D-bay battery and when I turn do brightness low, disable wifi/bt I get close to 9 hours of typing time. Brightness high, wifi/bt etc. I get close to 6 hours. (I have a 9 cell, NVS140 config)

    This font is fine with me. It looks like you have the same lightbleed issue I have, but perhaps it is the angle. Does the bottom appear very bright when you look at a dark screen?

    It's 4, not 3.

    Google "4gb and 32-bit"

    You can address 4GB with 32bit, but usually you can't use the whole address space because things beside memory need some part of it to be addressable, too.
