I don't know nothing about the quality of the screen. To me, for the WXGA I would go to D630. I mean 14 inch screen should be ok to the most users for the WXGA and it is lighter.

For the same specs which is costlier D630 or D830?

I think D830 is more expensive than D630 (Am I right?). But you should check it with the spec you want.

To Rik: Yes I will use an external monitor at work. But my guessing is that the weight difference between D830 and D630 is not that much significant in real situations.

And a 15.4' is about 1.2 times as large in surface area then the 14' , which makes the D630 relatively lighter (2,7 vs 2 kg, ratio 1,35. So the D830 is relatively 1.125 times as heavy as the D630, per area :D.

    From dell D630 brochure:
Starting at 4.47lbs (2.0kg) with 4-cell battery and Travel Lite module,
Starting at 5.1 lbs (2.3kg) with 6-cell battery and CD-ROM ddrive

    From dell D830 brochure:
Starting at 5.97Lbs/2.71Kgs with 15.4” WXGA LCD, Intel GMA X3100 graphics, CD-ROM and 6-cell battery

For fair comparison, D630 should be 5.1 lbs (2.3kg) in weight.

Is it true that in vista, the d830 Performance Index (in computer/properties, rate my computer) is only 3.0 with the 256MB Nvidia option? I've order a d830 and would be very disappointed. My 2 year old TI I'm replacing (tm8200) is 5.0.

If you're talking about the Aero performance index, then yes, it's around 3. With an out of the box configuration, I had an Aero rating of 3.2. Using ForceWare drivers I got a score of 3.4.

But now I've got XP running all fine and dandy so it's all good XD

I have the D830. I just want to know where your getting the latest ForceWare drivers from? I got the ones on Dell's site but I'm only geting a Aero Ratting of 3.1 with them. Any other dirvers I get off Nvidia site says not compatible with my hardware.

    Thanks Shane

I have to use Vista so can not use XP. It sounds like I should cancel the order? Is there something I don't get here on graphics performance. I would expect this to be faster than my old travelmate8200 with 2 year old technology.
