Old dell as in older model, since there is ZERO fan control in newer models.

Just posting to say my D630 is still running with it's T7300. I love this computer. If I didn't have a T410, it would be my primary machine. The keyboard is amazing to type on and all in all, the machine runs very well under linux.

I am also using my D630 every day, slightly thick and heavy but after 8 years the machine looks like new. On the other hand if somebody shoots at me I think it would stop the bullets :D

You made me feel sorry for my D800; still runs like a breeze and can even play Blu-rays (oc'ed + 1920x1200 @ 185Hz), yet it's only collecting dust in storage  ... kinda hard to part with, though.

Good to hear that the D630 is still in use by other people. This post is being typed on mine right now. I am 99% sure I am going to invest in a few choice upgrades for her since she has treated me so well.

    1. T9300 CPU - More cache, less heat, and faster clock than my current CPU
    2. 1440x900 LCD - More pixels, yay!
    3. SSD - I'm looking at buying a larger SSD for my T410, so the SSD that is in it now would go in this machine. It's a 256GB Samsung EVO and works very nicely.

You will love the display upgrade. No regrets opting for that when I bought mine from Dell Outlet.

Ever since I took it apart and cleaned the vent in front of the fan (there's a gap between the fan exit and the holes in the chassis that collects a wad of dust over time) and repasted, its like a whole new computer.

No more getting hot enough to fry an egg, it'll output 1080p to my HDTV just fine now while I'm surfing the web on the internal display, its great.
