Can I join your club with my 8GB Dell Latitude D630 with Intel 945 GMA graphics, 256GB Intel 530 SSD, Intel 7260 wireless AC/Bluetooth combo card, 1440x900 display, DVD+/-RW with Lightscribe, and running Windows 10 Technical Preview?

    SolidSonicTH,

How has your 7260 AC card been working out over the last 4 months?
I tried this card in my D630 over a year ago, and I had the same sort of problems you were having during your first attempts:
    - I would load the drivers, and connect at 866.7mb/s -at first- It was absolutely blazing fast! But, after I either put the laptop to sleep, or rebooted, I couldn't connect, - it would connect something like 29mb/s, but would not actually connect at all (couldn't browse the web).
    - I tired many things, but finally gave up.
    - As new drivers come out for it I would try again, but no luck. *That was when they were on the ver 16.xxx drivers for the 7260AC.
*I see they are now up to ver 17.13.11.
*Maybe I should give it another try, but before I do I was wondering if:
    - This card is still working for you, and you still able to connect at 866.7mb/s?
    - Did you get the Blutetooth to function on this card?

    Thanks in advance,
    -miker71

    Sudos,

After reading you post, I am thinking of adding a Broadcom Crystal HD BCM970015 card to my D630 too.

    So…., -
*After having this card in your D630 for a year, are you pleased/feeling like it was a worthwhile upgrade?

*All I do is Drop the card in, and Win7 recognized and loads the appropriate drivers, and then HD Video plays much better?

*As far as cooling the main chip: There are 2 large chips on this card. Are you referring to the “Broadcom" or “WinBand” chip, that should have the cooling mod?

    Thanks in advance,
    -miker71

I would recommend you uninstall the wireless drivers, shut down, swap the cards, and then install the appropriate drivers for the new card.

Hi there D630 owner here. I have a question. After reading through this D630 owners thread i made some modifications, one of them was changing the fan from the one with straight blades to the one with curved blades. Everything is fine, the fan cools the notebook quickly down but the temperature when the fan kicks in have changed from arround 62 to 70. Can somebody explain whis to me? Latest bios A19 AC MX2 paste.

Since, presumably, it's a better fan it'll have a higher power ceiling/range. The EC controls the fan using a temperature/rpm table and it appears that the 70°C-setting is simply the first that requires sufficient amps to drive the new fan, overcoming the initial resistance of the heavier, more densely wound coil (and/or, perhaps, higher weight of the fan itself). You could probably jump-start the fan at 60°C by giving it a gentle nudge.

Wouldn't worry about this, consider it a nice bonus noise-wise.

Weird, might be a mismatch between the rpm table and the fan ... though thought these are step-less in principle (unfortunately not implemented as such in the EC). Or the fan could need greasing, if it's a used fan. Without sufficient oil in the bearing the resistance would be higher as well, along with some additional noise.
