I don't know. I'd have to sit down and figure it out. I'd say with the T9500 processor, the 8GB RAM, NVIDIA motherboard, and all the parts, probably around $900. But it's NEVER been lacking for me at all!

You choose the NVIDIA mobo? The NVIDIA gpu is the one that's messed up.

On the other hand, while $900 seems like a lot of moola, you have a very solid system there.

I chose it because it had a 128MB dedicated video memory. The Intel only has 8MB. I must have gone through 3 of the motherboards before I got one that would be able to "burn-in". Good thing the online store had a return policy! I currently have a 250GB SATA drive, but I am seriously debating dropping some cash down for a 250GB SSD.

OK so it's not a bad choice then. With regard to the SSD, definitely go the SSD route ASAP. No debate there, it'll guarantee make your computing experience better. Else your SSD is broken.

Nope. Could be some kind of spring mechanism that it's using is messed up or something. Maybe you can open it up and fix it. Online manual available just google it.

I Just picked up a D630 2.2GHZ w/ 1GB of ram and 80GB HD from dell DFS for $330. I hope this was a good deal. I only have about a 60 day warranty though. How can i tell if my Nvidia graphics chip is going to cause me that problem or not?

There's really no way to tell...if I were you, I would try to get an Intel GMA D630 if you can exchange it, unless you really need the Quadro.

good news for me, the laptop i received actually has the intel GMA. even though i hate this graphics card and everything that it stands for, this laptop is my secondary one meant for website, programming and database projects, so i can definitely live with it! I paid $330 for a refurbed one with the high resolution screen. It only has 1 gig of ram but I have 4 extra gigs lying around that i will be able to use in it. very excited!
