The Latitude D series, especially D630 is so solid I'd bought used one easily. The Latitude E version is pretty much the same as the later D version, except for Montevina, which does not mean much to me. Unless it can go quad core, the D630 is fine IMO.

If I wanted to spend more, I probably would've gone with the M4400 and quadcore.

I just put together my D630. My last laptop was a D610, so I had some compatible accessories.

    D630: T7500 @2.2GHz, 8GB Ram, 250Gb HDD, Windows 7 Ult x64, 9 cell batt

$125 on ebay (with no RAM or disk)

I think this is a great value... especially since I have a couple docking stations (expanded and normal), power supplies, car power supply, drive bay battery. Now, if I can find a blu-ray drive to put into the Dell carrier...

Wow you found an incredible deal! I've been looking around for an inexpensive D30 myself. I agree though, it seems as the D630 is one of the most solid and backwards compatible laptops around. The body is built like a tank, and with so many parts circulating it's easy to work on.

I still try and use D630 for people who are hard on their laptops. Much more solid than the E series and cheaper to find parts for too.

Camp on E-bay.... be prepared to bid on every D630 in the last 5 seconds of auction at ~$150... and be prepared to do this for a week.

I'm shocked at how popular it is, units ran out fast on Dell Outlet. One might be able to find one on Dell Financial Services store though. http://www.dfsdirectsales.com/dell/notebooks/ctl641/cp11869/cl1

Here's my D630. I built mine from parts I bought on eBay. Most expensive was the RAM @ $300 for 2x 4GB sticks.

Nice. What was the total you paid for the machine?
