    Cool! Thank you!

    I have another question:

    - When I go to Windows Media Player and try to adjust the 'Enhancements', like WOW Effects or khz settings, the sound of the laptop just disappears when I modify them at all. I don't know what this might be related to, but if anyone could share some thoughts, that would be appreciated.

    thanks!

No problem, yeah I noticed that too, it's probably because of the D630's one speaker setup (It's a slit in the front edge of the laptop, You may not see it if you have a 9-cell battery but it's there) Also, I've noticed that it sounds better if you adjust Vista's sound settings, Here's how:

Right click on the speaker icon in the notification area and choose Playback Devices.

Double click on the speakers icon to open the speakers dialog box. Click the Enhancements tab and make sure that "disable all enhancements" is checked. Click OK in both windows to close them.

Yep, make sure the box has a check in it. If the sound is good with the enhancements, then keep it that way. :)

    Thanks for the quick reply.

To be honest I can't really tell the difference on the Dell speaker... but I haven't tried it with headphones or a real speaker system.

What do you think about installing a different software pack, like SRS Sandbox or something. I don't know :p

Crap, my year-old d630 started acting up along the lines of faulty Nvidia GPU description. I would suck even more to have to replace the GPU more than once.
And the sad thing is that I don't even use GPU properly, I suppose the real reason it failed because my cooling fan got full on pet hair and stopped running about a month ago for a few days that it took me to figure out what was going on (notebook would work fine for few minutes and then would become kinda veeery sloooow).

I wonder if its possible to change the 135M GPU to smth more stable in the long run, like some intel gpu that I originally thought of getting?

And the weird thing is that in 3dmark03 it hangs up within seconds under winxp, but runs through all the tests under win x64. Might try some older nvidia drivers for xp to see if it helps to slow the card down a bit. Is there an overclocking software that works on 135M? Time to use that one to slow the chip down until replacing laptop fits better into the schedule :)

Yeah, but I only have mail-in warranty left and being without my notebook for 2 weeks is a big inconvenience.
Anywho, its dead already, going out for M/B replacement in few days.

So after hearing stuff on Engadget about the new Synaptics touchpad features, I wanted to try the new Alps touchpad features that E series owners have.

It works! I was surprised that it would even install, given Dell's history of restricting drivers *Cough* Intel graphics drivers *Cough* It's a relatively small update, nothing that Synaptics touchpad owners will get jealous over-they still have more features than ours. The "circular scrolling" is a bit difficult to use though. Also, finally, horizontal scroll works in Firefox!
