Silc I have a Seagate 160 gb 7200rpm SATA drive. When it works normal it sounds fine and not much sound difference to the 5400 drives. If you find it noisy there are a few settings in the bios where you can change the HDD acoustics. I have mine on high performance and find its pretty quite. Having said that, I think my drive may have a fault. It makes these funny high pitched metallic scratchy/zapping sounds now and then, that are extremely annoying. They only last for a split second, so im not quite sure if this is normal of the 7200 drives or just happening to me..

    Hi again everyone,

My turn to ask for some feedback instead of giving it...

Unless I am being paranoid, my screen seems to be less bright now than it was when i first got the machine 8 weeks ago.

Has anyone else encountered this?? Is it normal?

    Thanks in advance,

    Nick

    Hi Nick,

Can't say i have experienced that. You may want to check if your "Ambient light sensor" is on... It will auto adjust your screens brightness depending on lighting conditons.. check your bios to see if its activated.. otherwise you can change your screens brightness settings in bios to a specified % if its a little dull.

Nick--check the ambient light sensor as livewire suggests--that should only be active when operating on battery though. Also check your brightness settings--did these accidentally get adjusted.

I've had my D630 for over six months now, and don't notice the screen being less bright.

hi there, sorry for the late reply, thanks for all your suggestions.

It is definitely not a light sensor issue, I am aware of when it is on.

Is changing the brightness in the bios the same as doing it in the control panel? When I do it in the control panel, the screen looks more and more washed out...

    Thanks again

    Nick

Those are two different brightness settings. If you push Fn and then the up or down buttons, you will change the same brightness setting as is in the BIOS.

    Hi everyone,

I am considering buying a D630 soon but still hesitating as to which graphics card choose.

I am not a hardcore gamer but like to play some old games. I currently have a 9800pro and can't find anything that can tell how my card would perform against an X3100 or NVS 135M.

I'd be grateful if someone could tell me if I would lose any performance by chosing one card or the other.

    Thanks in advance.

neither are earthshattering cards but the NVS is definitely in a class above the intel. Here in the UK the price differential is minimal so for me there was not doubt as to which one to chose. With the NVS card my windows vista base score is 4 which, by all accounts, is good and certainly more than adequate to run all the features of vista.

As everyone says, this laptop is a bit of a no-brainer, it's a great piece of kit. Fight for a good price and you'll have got yourself a bargain...
